Some will say this is bad advice because it can kill good bacteria with the bad. It did come from a doctor, and I have used this technique for years with no foul results that I know of. If infection is not the cause of your earache, this will not help you.

Dampen a cotton ball with 2% hydrogen peroxide. Lay down on your side with the hurting ear facing up. Squeeze the hydrogen peroxide out of the cotton ball into your ear until it feels like you've filled it up (is cold and sounds strange from bubbles but does not hurt). Wait for 30 seconds or so. Turn onto your other side and drain the liquid out onto a towel or hand full of tissue. Make sure you stay in the draining position for several minutes so that the fluid comes out.

You can do this a couple of times a day, and I have experienced dramatic reduction in pain within a couple hours of doing it.

use a ear wax melter, i had it once and i did the ear wax thing and it worked

Ask the doctor if there are any other medications.

It really isn't the best idea to put something into your ear. It may be a ear infection. Go to the doctor and ask for some ointment for hurting ear. You can put a little onto a cotton swab and just put some into your ear.

Try a ear candle. It's a cone shaped tube you light on fire and stick it in your ear. The heat draws out some nasty filth. Trust me I am not joking.

If your doctor gives you the 'all clear' and there is no infection or visable reason why you are having pain, then consider that you might have TMJ. It is a form of arthritis that forms in the jaw when people grind their teeth at night while they sleep. I suffered for a yr with this and even had mastoid surgery before they diagnosed me with TMJ. Go to your local GMC store and buy a stress drop that you can take before bed to relax you. I found a great one, and for $15 for a 3 month supply, i'm painfree and not wearing a $500+ jawsplint. (helps my knees and arthritic hands too.. lol )
