Is gargling with peroxide effective?!

Question: if I gargle with peroxide to reduce my chances of infection or also to fight off any infection and I use the 3% stuff is that effective. I know it works well if you put it in the ears.

On the bottle I have it says that you can do this but you have to be very careful not to swallow it

What kind of infection do you want to prevent???
this may sound weird but it works
for almost any kind of mouth sore.
make chamomile tea
one tea bag to one cup of boiling water.
let it steep until it is cold and strain.

to rinse
take a small mouth full and swish or gargle if it is the throat
do this for 30 sec's and spit out.
repeat several times a day.
what you are not going to use within a couple of hours keep in the fridge so it does not go bad.

this works for canker sores
cuts or any other wound in the mouth

Mixing it with peppermint tea will help with throat infections.

There is no side effects with these and are very cheep.

yea if you have an ulcer in your mouth but just doing it to be doing it no

dude u crazy? also the more your introduced to germ the less likely you will affected

No No No

Blimey, i'd stop it! Your body has enough environmental toxins to fight with let alone loading more toxic material into your system. Since most flu/cold and similar viruses travel by air and up yer nose it certainly won't help with those. For existing throat/mouth problems, I have no idea but even if it did help would assume you'd be replacing one bad thing for your body to deal with, with another :-s

Yes. The stuff is amazing.
I actually normally advise people to gargle before they put stuff in ears.

Pros
Peroxide is about one of the only things that effectively kills viruses (whereas say the stuff doctors perscribe for colds, antibiotics do nothing). It's also good for dealing with bacteria.
Peroxide is a really good mouthwash. It's federally mandated for all mouthwashes to contain it, and I've used peroxide instead of tooth paste for years with excellent results.
Cons
The 3% stuff you buy in the store has random stabilizer chemicals added to it so you should not swallow it.
With peroxide, concentration is a big deal. In high ones it's extremely dangerous, in low ones it's really helpful. For putting stuff in your mouth, 4% (some people can't deal with more than 1.5%) is about the upper limit of where you want to go (whereas with swallowing .1%, and into your sinuses .25%)
Hydrogen peroxide itslef is extremely non toxic and is part of the blood stream (and produced in the body), but you have to mind those two things.

Hope that helps.

It is very effective and will not harm you. You can also rinse your mouth out with warm salt water because this loosens the food under the gum line and helps to prevent decay.

Yes it helps to whiten them too.
