First time for a massage...whats the best kind to go for?!

Question: Will Deep Tissue be too much for me?
I want to be relaxed and rejuvinated afterward, not totally sore.

I will not go deep on a first timer. I will offer a full body Swedish and adjust to the person's individual needs.
I would recommend that you find a reputable therapist in your area and see what's available.

My first massage was a typical full body. It was heaven.

Deep tissue might be a little much for you, but it all depends. I heard that they do hurt a little, but if you like the extra pressure then go for it.

Ask for a full body relaxation massage. Typically you will be offered a 60-minute Swedish massage. Once in the session, if you require a little heavier pressure, then you can indicate that to the therapist. Depending on the training and/or ego of the massage therapist, a deep tissue massage may not be the best first session. If you mention Deep Tissue, then the therapist may get the idea that he/she needs to "fix" something.

Enjoy :)

as a massage therapist i recommend for frist timers just a basic full hour full body swedish massage you can ask for more pressure if your therapist isnt giving enough to work out your sore tight muscles, if you decide to get massages on a regular basis dont do deep tissue until about your 3rd or 4th massage just so you will know what to expect. and always remember just because it is deep tissue doesnt mean you should feel like you will be bruised or sore all over. during a deep tissue remember to breath deeply and if it gets to a point where you are in to much pain to handle during the massage ask to lighten up. pain equals your muscles tighting so then whats the point of a massage?? hope this is helpful.

It really depends on you.
do you have muscle pain now
do you like a hard touch or soft.
I get a very hard massage and I love it but the guy I go to can read you he knows how much pressure to put on
even though it does kind of hurt
I have gone to him with a severe migraine and by the time I left it was gone.
My Hubby went to him and the next day he was so sore he could not move.

Some say that you should start with a relaxation massage
but for those people who tend to be tender when you switch to the harder deeper massage you might feel pain any way.

if you only need to be relaxed go for the relaxation massage
but if there is an underlying condition
IE muscle pain going for the deep tissue would be more helpful.
I also love reflex therapy (feet done) it really helps with headaches.
