hot and cold. hot soothes it but cold makes it feel better a little after the heat.

try warm tea with mint...it will also help open your sinuses..even if you arent having any trouble with them..but your ear nose and throat are all connected so drainage from one will affect the other..so the mint will help with that plus the warm tea will be soothing

Neither is better for your throat, so go with whichever feels best. Chloraseptic spray or lozenges have always helped mightily when I have had a sore throat. NO "alternative" or "complimentary" therapy has ever helped.

usually hot drinks works the best. tea is excellent for sore throats. add a little lemon and honey as well. if you dont like either stick with the plain tea. don't add any sugar that wont help you.

cold drinks. try and get some pop-cicles. i had strep and that really knocked out the pain!

I like hot Knorr chicken flavor bouillon. It helps sooth the pain.

To help with the pain it is best to drink cold drinks
cold helps to reduce the swelling.
some say that hot drinks will help to heal you faster by bring more blood to the area but heat can also cause the area to swell . and that can cause more pain. If your throat swells too much this can be bad for you.

While using cold will do the same thing it does reduce swelling but has the added benifit.
when a part of your body is cold your body tries to warm it by sending more blood to the area so drinking cold will do both

things like Popsicles or ice cubes ice cream
you could even put juice in ice cube trays and suck on those

you could also try to gargle with warm (not hot ) salted water.
or warm water with vinegar
I also find sucking on a chewable vita c tab is helpful

you do not want to make them too strong but both are purifiers
another thing that makes me feel better is
hot lemon with honey
one cup of boiling water
add 1 to 3 table spoons of either bottled or fresh lemon
and the same amount of honey.
I drink this when I am sick but if I have a sore throat I wait for it to cool some.
You could also use maple syrup instead of the honey

also
chamomile tea and mint tea
both of them are germicidal and will help you to get over it faster.
to make you can use dried flowers of chamomile or a tea bag the same with the mint.
pour two cups of boiling water over the herbs or tea bags let steep for ten Min's and strain you could drink this or use as a gargle.
wait until it cools some before drinking it or using is as a gargle.

you could also try rose hip tea
to make it would be best to get dried rose hips and
pour one cup of boiling water over 1 tbls dried rose hips let sit for ten Min's and strain.
drink or gargle several times a day.

rose hips are full of vita c

Warm water. There's also sore throat herbal tea. It's helped to clear bacteria from your throat.

ice water with medication from the doctor works for me

You could try a warm water with salt gargle every few hours.

For drinking, I'd go with cold water, cold tea, cold juice.

Try Zinc lozenges

Cold drinks might temporarily sooth but they shrink the blood vessels that carry the blood that cures the ache
Rub very gently on the neck about an inch on either side of the Adams apple. Take aspirin and try warm drinks, not hot, and try lemon juice and ginger.
