Is there a way to reduce cholestrol besides drugs?!

Question: Besides the obvious like less meat intake. When thats just not enough, because your body itself is making too much. Is there a way to get your body to make less cholesterol? Is there any special/"miracle" food for this?

Oats, oatmeal, oats based muesli, garlic, fish oil and apple cider vinegar all help as well as lots of other natural remedies that you can find in a search for "high cholesterol" + "natural remedies".

oatmeal; at least thats what they advertise

garlic helps in reducing cholesterol, use them in your food. i have seen many ppl eating the seeds, but that produces awesome smell.

just find out in search about garlic, and u would know more amazing facts. and u would never have to take any medicines, u will be able to reduce it naturally.

check out candida support files on yahoo groups to learn alot...

You can get odorless garlic capsules and take them like medicine. Ask at your health foods store about the correct 'dosage.'

Oatmeal -- a big bowl (at least 3/4 cup dry) every morning -- really does work wonders for cholesterol, and you don't even have to put garlic on it! Sorry, just kidding. Top it with anything you like. During the summer, when you don't want hot cereal, stir 6oz to 8oz of any flavor yoghurt into it, add a little milk if it seems thick, and let it stand about 2 minutes at room temperature before eating.

There is no miracle anything.

Policosanol, 10-20 mg each evening. Numerous studies show that it reduces total and LDL cholesterol, lipoprotein, and increases good HDL cholesterol. Red yeast rice, 1,200 mg twice daily. This extract has been shown to reduce cholesterol levels and increase HDL. (note: take 100 mg of coq10 when using this product). Garlic, take 300-500 mg twice of aged garlic daily. Niacin, take 1,500-3,000 mg daily of the no-flush form (inositol hexaniacinate). Fish oil, reduce inflammation in the arteries and loweres cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Guggul, take a daily total of 1,500 mg standardized to 5 % guggulsterone(equivalent to 75 mg of guggulsterones). This Ayurvedic herb reduces cholesterol levels and increases HDL. A complex of antioxidants or a multivitamin, as directed on the container. Several of the antioxidants prevent cholesterol oxidation.

There are two ways to reduce cholesterol overall that i know -Diet and fitness. Not all cholesterol will be reduced with fitness same with diet. Fitness should be cardio workouts Diet you got it right -cut out meat-it isn't that good for you - also- eat fiber- good for the digestive track! hope this helps

Happyjac gave some good advice, take it. I took niacin for my cholesterol 500-3000mg a day. I took fish oil and vitamin E, not the synthetic kind. I used Carlsons E gems, they are a bit pricey but worth it. I took 400mg of CoQ10. As far as my diet I ate high fiber, but I cut the carbohydrates as much as possible. I ate lean proteins and vegetables and cooked my meat in extra virgin olive oil. After about four months my cholesterol went down significantly. My doctor of course told me that i could not do it and wanted to put me on lipitor, but of course, I proved him wrong. He said it could not be done. Anything is possible, you just have to be willing to make changes to your lifestyle.

I got advice from a friend who had a doctor in Hilton Head Island who wrote a book about the cholesterol drugs and stated that yes the drugs lower cholesterol, but they are killing us, mainly our organs and how they are supposed to function w/o the medication. This doctor used to teach at medical schools and realized that what they are teaching the doctors is not necessarily the truth. He advocates staying away from processed sugars and carbohydrates and watch how you bodies cholesterol improves. If you want the name of the book I will get it from my friend and email you if you like.
