I don't know what Pliny recommended; but since they rarely crawl into ears and *don't* burrow anyway, what difference does it make?
that is a myth earwigs, are perfectlyy harmless (although they do appear menacing) they will not burrow into you're brain
yes it will drill into your brain and the best way to get it out is to use a tweezers
1. Put any ear drops/ mustard oil in the ear to drown it . It will get killed, go to ENT surgeon & get it removed.
2. THERE IS NO WAY. IT CAN NEVER BURROW INTO BRAIN.
