Flaxseed oil is a rich source of alpha linoleic acid, an omega-3 fatty acid. Alpha linoleic acid is converted into DHA (docosahexanoic acid) and EPA ( eicosapentaenoic acid). It is used to reduce inflammation, promote healty circulation and healthy skin, hair and nails: as well as to improve constipation. It is also used for Asthma, Attention Deficit Disorder, Bipolar disorder, cancer, cardiovascular disease, copd, depression, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and triglycerides, IBS, Lupus, osteoporosis, preeclampsia pregnancy, and schizophrenia.
Too much flaxseed oil can cause diarrhea. Men with prostate cancer should avoid supplemantation with flaxseed oil and use ground seeds instead. Flaxseed ooil has a mild blood thinning effect, so check with dr. if on blood thinning meds.
Usual dosage is 1-2 tbsp a day or 8-12 capsules a day

Fresh, refrigerated and unprocessed, linseed oil is used as a nutritional supplement. It contains high levels of omega-3 fatty acids, especially alpha-linolenic acid, which has been suggested to be beneficial for preventing heart disease and arrhythmia, reducing inflammation leading to atherosclerosis, and is required for normal infant development. However recent well-controlled placebo studies suggest that regular consumption of flax seed oil may not reduce the risk of stroke, heart disease, or cancer any greater than placebo.

Regular flaxseed oil contains between 52 and 63 % alpha linolenic acid (C18:3 n-3). Plant breeders have developed flaxseed with high alpha linolenic acid content (70 %) and very low alpha linoleic acid content (< 3%).

Although flax seeds themselves contain lignans, a class of phytoestrogens considered to have antioxidant and cancer preventing properties, the extracted linseed oil does not contain the lignans found in flax seed, and therefore does not have the same antioxidant properties. In fact, flax seed oil is easily oxidized, and rapidly becomes rancid with an unpleasant odour unless stored in the refrigerator. Even when kept under cool conditions it has a shelf life of only a few weeks.

Oil with an unpleasant or rancid odour should be discarded. Rancid oils contribute to the formation of free radicals and may be carcinogenic.

Oxidation of flax seed oil is major commercial concern, and antioxidants may be added to prevent rancidification.

it helps a lot

Flaxseed oil is great for lowering cholesterol and also aids digestion and eases bowel movements (no more constipation for you!!)
By the way, why are you taking it in the first place if you don't know the benefits. In the future I would suggest finding out the benefits AND possible risks of homeopathic aids BEFORE taking them.

Flaxseed oil used to be the primary source of omega three. I to use to take it daily. But the skinny is that Omega three capsules (cod liver or deep sea fish oil) Offers three times the amount of Omega three available in the same amount of flaxseed. So I switched. It lubricates the ligaments in my joints. The oil is a great stomach lube, while adding oxidents.
It is also touted for its healing properties.
