Is there any way to naturally improve your eyesight?!

Question: Something free. I've heard that eating carrots improves your eyesight... is that just an old wives tale? I've heard a variation that it only improves seeing in the dark too.

I've heard about "eye exercises" but it sounds like BS to me.

I'm very near-sighted with astigmatism if that makes any difference.

I can't really answer about *improving* your eyesight (I am also extremely nearsighted), but I did want to share a relaxing eye exercise I was told about when I was younger that I still practice to this day. If you are like me and have to look through strong prescription lenses all day, you probably know how nice it feels to take off your glasses, like when you go to bed, or wash your face, or shower. The exercise is, take 5 or 10 minutes out of your day to sit down, or lie down, without your glasses on. Cover your eyes for 5 or 10 minutes, and just feel the muscles relax. Looking through glasses all day forces your eyes to adjust to a new shape... but not their natural shape (as horrible as your vision may be with that natural shape). So let your eyes relax and have a break for 10 minutes. Don't let any light in. After covering them for 5-10 minutes, uncover them. Leave your glasses off, and take a look around the room. Now try to identify every colour of the rainbow. Look around until you find something vibrantly red. Now orange. Next, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink. With your own unaided eyes colours appear more bright and visible.

I did hear of a way to PREVENT nearsightedness, particularly among children... check out the website: http://www.myopia.org/. It's quite "anti eye-care-business", but it's worth considering.

Hope this was helpful!

The carrot thing is a myth, drawn up by the british to explain why their pilots were so accurate. Later, we found out... they had this super wicked radar system... too many carrots will turn you orange.

The eye exercises do work. Your eyes are a muscle, by straining and exercising them (just like any other muscle) they get stronger.

Depends what you mean by eyesight. There are vitamins that help eye health generally and are recommended for older people to ward off things such as Macular Degeneration. But nothing will cure a refractive error. It's structural. Your eyes are not muscles. Your accomodation ("zoom") is effected by musles that pull on the lens, but all you can ever do by exercise is keep those supple a bit longer. No exercise can change the SHAPE of your eye, which is what caues the refractive error. Only surgery can change the shape of your eye.

You can have surgery for a fix (not always 100%) or use corrective lenses.

For your particular case I believe there is a type of surgery now that can fix astigmatism, ask at a local reputable LASIK clinic.

Being near sighted means your retina is thin and can tear easily. That is one of the causes of blindness. It has to do with the shape of your eye. A birth condition.

Taking a high vitamin supplement diet will help keep your eyes healthy. They need a lot of beta carotene. Vitamin D is really necessary to avoid Light sensitivity. Should you be light sensitive you need Plenty of Vitamin D to correct the problem.

My daughter is profoundly near sited (minus 750 and 800)and at 19 nearly went blind from retinal tearing. It shows up as black spots in your vision. In her case the tears lay back down and re healed naturally. Thank God. The Ophthalmologist did not even find what was wrong even with elaborate testing.

Have a good Ophthalmologist and take care of your eyes, some things cannot be corrected if ignored and you only have one pair of eyes.

My Father had glaucoma and did not listen to the Dr. he went blind.

So please take care of your eyes.

Carrots contain vitamin A beta carotene so they do help.
Also eat foods rich in lutein, lycopene, vitamins C and E and antioxidents like Acai and beta carotene. Take them as supplements as well.
Also take ginkgo, quercetin, bilberry and eye bright.
Drink pomegrante juice like POM juice.
Cut out sugar and artifical sweeteners (use stevia)
cut out junk food and foods loaded with additives and preservatives.
Your eyes may or may not improve but they shouldn't get worse with these. I think a lot might depend on the quality of the supplements.

If you have glasses, try not using them as often for close up things like reading. I believe thet contacts improve you eyes a bit. They also have vitamins you take that work as eye supplements.

You can't actually improve your eyesight but you can certainly slow down the deterioration process with carrots, corn, bilberries and blueberries.

Carrots, bilberries and blueberries will actually improve your night vision temporarily so if you eat them every day you will get the best results.
