Try her on 5htp instead. I couldn't tolerate SJW, but I've been fine on the 5htp. It's an amino-acid and you can buy it from health food stores or over the 'net.

She shouldn't take the SJW anymore as it does sound as though she's having some kind of allergic reaction. Get some antihistamines in just in case.

No - I take it all the time because I can't tolerate regular prescribed antidepressants that make me sleep 12 or more hours a day. Is she on other meds? If she has hives she must stop taking it if she suspects it is the cause the reaction could turn serious. Acne "breakouts" are definitely not from St. John's Wort. Please consult a doctor for an alternative... a serious reaction - especially if she believes her tongue is swollen - may occur... everyone is different and each and every one of us has our peculiar allergies and sometimes an allergy doesn't show up right away - you may be on a drug - like an antibiotic off and on for years and then one day take it and be allergic to it... please get a doctor's advice and have her stop taking it until so....

She could be allergic to the St john's wort or one of the other ingredients in the supplement. Anyone can be allergic to anything, and allergies can develop after you have taken something before .

She could try at vitamin b / oats/ passion flower supplement if none of these are in the one shes on now.
