We give it to our autistic son. What are you leery of? There is no downside but a HUGE upside. Think of cod liver oil as "brain food". It provides the autistic child with the basic components they need to heal and to overcome existing neurological damage. My chiropractor told me if he could only give one supplement to his kids it would be cod liver oil. Their are dozens of studies that confirm it is unmatched in value for brain development. Its good for the cardiovascular system, the eyes, your skin, joint health and on and on.

We also administer several other things to assist our sons recovery. Frankly, our doctor was no help at all, more of a hindrence actually.
I fould this site http://www.generationrescue.org/ and thank god I did. Because of the inf and links I found here I started down the biomedical path and our son has drastically improved from where he was a year ago. Our occupational therepy instructor is amazed at his advancements and has said things like "guys-it just doesn't happen like this" and " At the rate he is advancing he will not meet the waiver requirements at his next review. Music to my ears. Not every child responds, about 50% and in varying degrees.

We currently are giving our 3 year old peach flavored nordic naturals cod oil. We put it in his juice and down it goes no problem. We have used Cor-omega brand fish oil also, it tastes great! Unbelievable I know but trust me-its good. Just google it.
Purity is an issue-only buy the best.

Check these sites out for further inf. I have bought from all three with no problems.

Autism is treatable and reversible.
Good luck to you.

I do not have any experience with the autism aspect of your question, however, I have also read over and over that omega-3 supplementation is beneficial for the condition. My family currently takes Carlson's Norwegian Cod Liver Oil capsules. Carlson's is a respectable brand. There supplement contains no detectable levels of mercury or other contaminants, and they bottle the oil at the source so it stays as fresh as possible. I have also seen a lot of info on Krill oil, which is supposed to be more bioavailable than cod liver or fish oil. Krill are also lower on the food chain and naturally believed to contain less toxins because of less bioaccumulation. I don't have a brand I've tried to recommend, but Dr. Joseph Mercola sells some, and he is a respectable source for information so you might want to check his site out (www.mercola.com). You specified fish oil, but I believe cod liver oil is better because it also provides vitamin D, which most people are deficient in. If you live in an area near the equator and your child gets plenty of sunlight, then fish oil would be appropriate. Otherwise, go for cod liver oil.

I wish you and your family luck in whatever treatment you opt for.

I have heard of this and a friend of mine tried it a few years ago without much success. The oil gave her son diarrhea.

I wish you the best of luck with your son!

Gummi Vites just came out with a great fish oil supplement that kids --mine anyway--like!! Give him 1-2 per day. I don't know if it helps, but it can't hurt him. My daughter has white matter brain damage. Fish oil is supposed to help with damage of that sort. I'd try it if I were you. There is evidence that it may help with ADD.

These are some good sites you want to check
Buy omega that says it has been made mercury free

people are starting to link autism to the newer vaccinations

In some states you can sign a form that you are against the vaccines.

I have never had to treat a child with autism. As a special education teacher I have some knowledge of it from my education courses.

You might be interested in reading Amy Lansky's book "The Impossible Cure". She used homeopathy to treat her child. There are many degrees of severity with the condition and it still might be an option for you to investigate if you can find a qualified pediatric homeopath in your area.

You can probably find the book in your local country library.

Fish Oil can be purchased in liquid form.Dont be leary.
Most people with brain related problems have one thing in common.Their bodies are in a state of low grade inflammation. So fish oil being an anti-inflammatory agent helps in reducing this condition, and allows the neuro-transmitters of the brain to better communicate with each other.Autism in kids is also linked to Mercury in vaccines. So when you buy fish oil make sure that it is Mercury free and a top brand. My sister's son was diagnosed with Schizoprenia
and I read some studies done in England showed promising results. It is your child so do what you have to,dont depend on doctors they wont be much help, you do your own research.Good Luck.

Check and see if any of the vaccines that were given had Thimerisol a type of Mercury. If yes it could be mercury poisoning. It caused autism, I understand.
