Whats the deal on salvia ground leaves?!
Question: hey, i have some salvia ground leaves, are these the same as the extract that comes in 5X 10X etc? if not why not? i have quite a big bag of these leaves too. thanks for your input.

First of all, they must be salvia "Divinorum" (the species) to be psychoactive. There are many species of salvia (which is a sage) that have no effects on the body at all besides destroying your lungs.
If you know these are salvia divinorum leaves, they are most likely not extract. If they are just in an unlabeled bag, and you have a lot of them, chances are they are normal leaves. Normal leaves means that it is equivalent to 1x.
The reason they are not 5x, or 10x etc etc, is because the chemical was not extracted and put back in.
5x means that there is 5 times the amount of "salvinorin a (the psychoactive chemical in the plant)" than there is normally. This is done through a chemical extraction process in a lab (or home made lab.) same goes for 10x, 20x etc etc.
you can smoke or chew the leaves, but generally speaking the effects wont be as strong as smoking extract.
The intensity of salvia is written on the package. the 5x or 10x is specially produced and if it's not otherwise marked, dried leaves are just 1x strength.
If you are referring to the "specific" salvia plant known as "Salvia Divorum", than yes, the potency is important to be aware of. This herb commonly from the "sage" family has been used for years by native americans. Most commonly, this has been used by Shamans. This herb will cause a trans like state which lasts about 5 - 10 mins. However, if you are planning on smoking it, please do your research. This is not to be used as a recreational herb, one should have a sitter watching you as you can hurt yourself without even knowing. Like walking into things, etc....
