i am currently taking r lipoic acid. I cannot tell you yet if it is working better than alpha lipoic acid to help control my type 2 DM. I took alpha lipoic acid for 6 years.the literature says that lipoic acid is 50/50 r lipoic and s lipoic and that s lipoic is not the active part, so that r lipoic at a given dose should be twice as effective as alpha lipoic. thats what they say today.

ALA is a chelator and dangerous if you have any metal toxicity.
