How long and how hard is it to get a degree in massage therapy?!

Question: thanks for all the answers!

Answers: thanks for all the answers!

Find an accredited college or university that offers a massage therapy program if you want a degree. An associates degree is possible in about 18 months. Some schools may even offer a bachelors degree in human science (or some related field) and have massage therapy as part of the program as well (3-4 years). Each state will be different regarding your license or certification to practice. Check with your state's health and human services (or equivalent) department to know the requirements for practice. You may not even need to elect a degree program to begin practicing. A diploma that meets the required hours may suffice. Depending on the school you attend, it could be as academically challenging as any other science degree curriculum.

I think it would need to be part of a broader physiotherapy and healing course or sports science program to qualify for degree status.

That's going to depend on what state you live in and it may not even be a "degree". It may be a certification instead.

In my state, you'd spend 9 months in school, several hours in clinical practice and have to pass an exam for basic certification. More if you do like the other poster said and make it part of a larger curriculum.

Most courses I have heard of are about nine months long - maybe only two or three intensive days or a weekend per month over that period.

Not too "hard" as a lot of time is spent getting and giving massages - a very pleasant way to be educated. LOL

I was only certified in Trager massage (several intense weekends) and most of my training came from attendance at seminars at Esalen Institute in Big Sur, CA.

my friend is in that major and it's very tough the practicals especially.

You don't get a degree, you get a certificate and it usually takes a year.
