meditation is good, it just takes practice.
~~you can try something simple like laying on your back in a dark quiet room (a bed or floor, what ever is comfortable for you)
~~some soft relaxing music is good if you want to use it
~~focus on a positive image in your mind (something that makes you feel good like the beach, or some memorys)
~~ focus on keeping your breathing deep and even and slowly concentrate on relaxing you entire body one section/limb at a time

try to do this for maybe 5-10 minutes at a time to start off.

also aromatherapy is excellent: lavendar, jasmine, palmarosa, green tea, chamomille, etc, are good in either teas, candles, or oils used in a bath or lotion to rub on.

even if you cant meditate because of time or space or privact, deep breathing is a great way to calm and relax the body. just take a quick moment to close your eyes and breath in slowly and as deep as you can, hold for 5-10 and blow out slowly.

Wake up at early morning everyday, take 10 min to think what you're going to do in your day. Take a DeeP breath and exercise.Then take a HoT bath..........
Listen to music(relaxing music)

To meditate properly you have to relax first, I use the following technique-lay on your back with eyes closed and take 3 slow deep breaths in and out, with the next deep breath in imagine your toes,feet and ankles relaxing, next breath in your legs and knees, next breath thighs and bottom, then your stomache and chest, then shoulders and neck, then arms hands and finger, repeat shoulders and neck with the next breath as you store more tension here, then your face and head. Really try to feel each area relax, this can also be used as an aid to sleep, hope this helps

I personally use aromatherapy oils in a reed diffuser, like Geranium, Lavender or Frankincense. I also have a small lavender pillow which helps me sleep.

If you cannot follow the meditation methods others have given try exercise . Do some jogging, walking or swimming; what ever you enjoy to you feel tried then have a hot bath.
Going out for a walk in the cold, rain and wind for a few hours; when come back in the warmth and have a hot drink will also relax you.
Having someone give you reflexology or massage can be very relaxing.
Lastly, after sex with the right person can make you feel relaxed and contented.
