Shortening the duration of a cold?!

Question: I am about a day into my cold, and I already have pretty bad symptoms. Are there any ways to shorten the length of my cold that doesn't involve drugs? Thanks!

Mullein tea is great for respiratory anything. You can find it at your health food store or online at http://www.iherb.com (not affiliated, just like their service) Steep tea for 5-8 minutes.

Other good teas - Lemon, chamomile, peppermint.

Don't forget to add honey to your tea. Honey is a great anti EVERYTHING. Very beneficial. Honey is great for a sore throat. If you like the taste (or even not) just take a teaspoon of it.

Garlic is also good. We make it into a butter (1 tbsp melted butter - 1 clove or more galric crushed into butter) We spread it on bread and grill it (don't toast, butter might ignite) or we put it on our favorite pasta. Some just pop a garlic clove, but we like the flavor :-)

Pineapple juice is good for soothing your sore throat while it heals.

Lots of liquids. Make sure you have 100% juices, not juice drinks, and lots of water.

Apple cider vinegar. We take at the onset of any illness, and it usually gets no further. 1 tsp in a glass of apple juice is the most palatable method of taking it. You can take more than 1 tsp though - my daughter had a half a glass with supper one night when feeling ill - just ACV - ick. She did feel better after though!

Add 500 mg of Vit C 2x daily - it is antiviral and will help. Make sure you take it separately. C is a water soluble vitamin and the body will excrete what it doesn't use. Hence, more than once a day. Usually morning and evening is what we do.

If you are concerned about infection, get some Grapefruit Seed Extract (also available at your health food store or iHerb) Make sure you get grapeFRUIT not grape seed extract. Put 10 drops in 6 oz of water and gargle for soar throat or swallow for other concerns. Every 4-6 hours is often enough. My son just used it again yesterday for his sore throat. Gone in 24 hours or less. We still take it for 24 hours or so after the throat stops being sore to make sure we got all the bacteria. (*My son is allergic to all antibiotics, so we needed to find an alternative that works! He gets sore throats and throat infections occasionally.)

Finally, NO refined sugars. They are immune system suppressants and will counteract any good you are trying to do. You can do natural sugars like honey, molasses and turbinado. If you want a sugar substitute (don't do artificial sweeteners) use Stevia drops - 1 drop sweetens a whole glass of tea. It is a natural plant derivative.

Best to you!

try a humidifier and put a drop of eucalyptus oil in it...works for me!

Try searching for natural cold remedies it brings up quite a few.

I have a cold too!

Cheers!

How do you feel about homeopathic medicine? Theres one called "cold reduce" thats amazing. If not,I always drink hot tea with lemon, ginger, honey and garlic many times a day .

i know you didnt want a drug, but Zicam's like 10 bucks and works really, really well for shortening the duration of a cold. it's worth every penny.

Elderberry-proven.
