I discovered neti pots several years ago when searching the Internet for more holistic ways to treat sinus problems. I ordered one of the stainless steel 16 oz ones, got some iodine-free salt, went to town. At first, I thought that it didn't work or maybe I was doing it wrong? I could FEEL water sloshing around in my head after I did the process. However, to do it properly you really have to follow through with the process--don't talk or swallow while pouring, and DO the drying breathing to get that water OUT. But the biggest problem I think many beginners face is that they don't realize how MUCKY the insides of their noses are. I equate it to being like a pan you cooked in and dropped in the sink. Pouring some water on it will wash SOME of the gunk away, but probably not all--not the first go round. It might take a repeat application or two to get things flowing properly. I found it extremely helpful during the two sinus flareups I have had in the last four years (both probably viral). You just keep pouring into a stopped up nose and then voila! some really disgusting stuff might just blullup right on out of there and down the sink drain. THAT's when you're sick and stopped up. But better out than in, right? Make sure you do both sides. If I am sick I might run 2-3 pots through to make sure I've got things flowing, and as I read one place, the neti process has a vacuum effect on your sinuses and eustacian tubes and will actually help draw congestion OUT! I learned a lot about the neti process at healthandyoga.com ---and this was years ago before Oprah did her show about them. Personally, I think it works best as a preventative--once in the evening flushes the allergens/pollutants/germs out of your sinuses. Every doctor I have asked about using the neti pot endorsed its value for sinus health and maintenance.

Yikes, sorry you didn't get a good experience. Are you sure you used it correctly? I have never used one so can not say anything good or bad about it. GL

I use one when the mold is high, or after I have a cold. I think it works fine. Helps clear out my head.

Are you sure you know what you're doing, and that you're doing it right? The technique has been around for thousands of years, so the problem might be YOU.

I use it every day I now can breath and I don't have sinus problems or headaches

Garlic is very good for sinus problems and taking 6 high strength odourless 3,000 mg garlic oil capsules every day will help. Garlic is both an antibacterial agent and an antimicrobial agent.

Mucus generating foods such as dairy products and red meat can be replaced with soy milk and white meat.

Neti pot and other treatments only give you a bit of short term relief and that is all. Nasal sprays can actually damage your sinuses and antibiotics are no good either.

Even apple cider vinegar helps a bit.
