Has anyone ever tried any of these herbal remedies for menstrual problems?!

Question: I have had a lot of menstrual problems for the past 7 years. I have extreme pain and pms. I'm in my mid 20's and have been to trying things with my doctor but nothing seems to really help. Over the years I have taken several prescription drugs, mostly NSAIDS, and have decided to try another route. I have done some research and was wondering if anyone has had any luck with herbs to treat their periods. I have read about Raspberry Leaf tea, Feverfew, Vitex (chasteberry), and evening primrose oil. If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it.

Since nobody has directly addressed the herbs, I can help with that. I have talked to thousands of people that use various herbs and natural products. From my experience with those people, Evening Primrose Oil and Vitex are two of the most popular supplements for women's "monthly issues", as is Dong Quai, Black Cohosh, and Wild Yam.
There are some women that get relief from Raspberry Leaf, but most people use Feverfew more for migraines and similar problems (which may be something that would greatly help you).
Magnesium also does help to a point... but don't take too much. Magnesium can build up in your body and cause all sorts of problems (including diarrhea when taken in high doses). Taking 400 mg of Magnesium daily is a good idea regardless of what time of the month it is.
Try any of those, and you should get at least some relief. There's plenty of options, so try a few different items (one at a time is the best) if the first one doesn't work well enough. Good luck!

i have struggled with this too.

what i have used that has worked for me are several things:
taking a warm bath and then rubbing down in a lotion of so or shea base and then adding , lavender, jasmine, primrose, or other soothing relaxing essential oils. and i lay down with a heating pad or hot water bottle for a few minutes to help relax my abdominal muscles.

i also cut out most of the caffeine in my diet just for health sake and when it comes closer to my cycle i cut down on any foods that are high in sugar.

i stretch to keep my muscles loose and relaxed and for me exercise definitely helps. mediation is also great just to help relax the body and mind.

i have realized that for me when i sit around and all i can think about is how bad it hurts, it hurts worse!!!

but when i get up and move around keep my blood circulating and breathe deeply to keep fresh Oxygen coming in i feel better.

i have place a link to a page that has great info on some oils and their uses.

hope this helps

:)

I don't know about taking herbs per say, but I do know that drinking/eating things with Magnesium (since it helps with muscle contraction) can help with that pain. You can go to your local vitamin store/drug store and purchase fish oil capsules, those help too. I havent tried the fish oil ones myself but I hear it works. I found Magnesium helps considerably and you can find it in foods like leafy vegetables and nuts and grains, just don't overdo the magnesium because too much of it can make you sick.

Magnesium is supposed to help with PMS and menstrual cramps.

You can find further information in searches for pms + magnesium and "menstrual cramps" + magnesium.

I definately can relate to what you are going through because I used to have the same problem. Something that works extremely well is Nutrilite's Primrose Plus supplement. In case you've never heard on Nutrilite they are the number one vitamin and supplement company in the world. All of their products are organic and atheletes like Gabrielle Reese and Asafa Powell use their products. Anyway their stuff really works and they guarentee satisfaction or they'll give you a full refund. You can't buy their products in stores but I can give you the direct link so you can read about the product and even buy it if it sounds like what you are looking for http://adrennan.qhealthzone.com/products... I very much beleive this will work wonders for you and make a huge difference. Best Wishes :)

Since you've been under the doctor's supervision, I'll assume there is nothing wrong with the reproductive organs per se, so this leaves us with the hormones and/or hormonal problems as the root of your problems. To cut a long story short, fix the hormones and the reproductive organs will be fixed too. And to fix the hormones, you must go up the ladder, directly to the pituitary body, which is the main regulator of the hormonal activities in the body. Get the pituitary to work as it should, and the rest will follow suit.

The problems with NSAIDS is that they are too narrowly oriented towards the temporal change, so that when you stop using them, the problems return, usually with vengeance. You need a wholistic solution, a solution that will cover as many of your symptoms as is possible.

You have asked for herbal remedies and the answer is that yes, there are herbal remedies, such as vitex (amongst many others) that will balance the pituitary, which will in turn produce the results that you want. But there are also many other means of balancing the pituitary, including Reiki as a general energy flow technique, Bach flower remedies (which would work through stabilizing the emotions), homeopathy (if you or your health pracititioner know what you are doing, this could be the best alternative treatment of all), organo remedies, various complex formulas mixing homeopathy and herbs and so on.

Researching the remedies is good, but you should also look at your current life circumstances. How about your emotional situation -- is it stable or not, maybe you are emotionally overloaded and the body just reacts to it? Maybe you are in the state of so-called Estrogen Dominance, which is an emotional turmoil that helps produce "wrong" hormonal flow!? This list could go on, but in general, try to assess your current lifestyle and see whether could you implement some seemingly small changes that could lead to better health -- how about cooking, the choice of food you eat etc. etc. etc.

You know, from a broader point of view, it might be that your body wants to tell you something, listen to it and amend your ways accordingly!

For menstrual problems the pranayam (breathing exercises) will help a lot.It encourages the glands in the body to be more efficient and so keep the body healthy. Also the extra oxygen helps keep the blood cells healthy. You will notice the benefits gradually over a few months.Build up your timing gradually,If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume later.
