Propranolol is messing with my head?!

Question: Yesterday I went to the doctor and he found out I have high blood pressure, 140 over 75. So he gave me a prescription for Propranolol, a beta blocker. I started taking it today at 8am, and went to sleep on the couch. When I woke up a few hours later, sounds seemed to be at a lower pitch than they were before I started taking the medicine. This made me think something was wrong with me and caused me to have a lot of panic attacks. I'm 13 years old and 135 pounds, and the doctor is giving me 20mg pills that I take 3 times a day.

Thanks a lot for all your help!

hmm, not quite sure.
how about u let ur parents know? and ask the doctor, he knows best and willp robably know the right answer

Call your local pharmacist and ask them if that is a side effect. A beta blocker doesn't usually cause that I don't think. They use it in the hospital for people ALL THE TIME during surgeries. I'm on a beta blocker that is similar and I have no side effects. I have a feeling you may just have a cold coming on or something.

Consult your physician as soon as possible. This may be your system adjusting to the hypertension being regulated, but you need confirmation of that fact.

Are you sure that your high bloood pressure wasn't causing you tinnunitis and now you are hearing normally?

at 14 my BP was 145/90. At 30 years later it was 120/70. Start jogging my friend. You've gotta start now. Speed doesn't matter. By spring you need to be up to 45 minutes a day 5 days a week.

I would check with a second doctor. 140 over 75 is not really considered high blood pressure, especially if this was the first time you've had a reading like that. If, you've had readings higher than this or several readings within this range, I would still check with another physician. The medicine prescribed seems drastic for a 13 year old unless there is more to your blood pressure history than you've suggested.
