The studies have not concluded (December 2007) but interim reports released to the public media were that pomegranate juice may slow onset or development of prostate cancer.

Pomegranate juice contains a lot of anti-oxidants. Preliminary studies indicate that it can reduce heart disease risk factors. The same thing that causes some forms of heart disease (plaque in the arteries) can cause erectile dysfunction (blocking tiny blood vessels in the penis). Pomegranate juice is probably a very good preventive measure against hear disease or e.d.
If you have e.d. that is bad enough that you need Viagra, the effect of pomegranate juice is probably not going to be strong enough to make a big difference though. Viagra works usually within 30 minutes to an hour. Viagra works by causing increased levels of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), leading to smooth muscle relaxation in the penis, resulting in increased inflow of blood and an erection. Pomegranate juice would work very slowly over time through the antioxidants that the juice is rich in.
If you're worried that you may someday develop e.d., then pomegranate juice might be a way to prevent it, or buy you time before it's onset. But if you already have a problem with e.d., it's not going to near as effective as Viagra.
