Intense muscle knots - relief????!

Question: i get these muscle knots that are the size of golf balls - and as hard it seems.

i've been to see masseuses - even very experienced or very very strong ones and even when they push as hard as they can, only a little change occurs.

i've had this for years - particularly in my shoulders - above and below them and my neck.

i'm a little person and masseuses are always shocked and befuddled as to why i am experiencing this.

can anyone help?

I also recommend to continue to see a Massage Therapist that specializes in that type of treatment.
But ,it sounds from your question that this has been an ongoing problem for a number of years. With that being said, this problem has become quite cronic and will take sometime to resolve, even at the hands of the most experienced massage therapist. You need to find a therapist and create a treatment plan with them and stick to that plan. They can also give you advice on what to do at home, ie. Stretches, and what else could possibly be causing the problem in the first place, ie. poor posture, stress, or if you work at a computer, is your desk set up right for you.

This could be a muscl problem and best to visit a Doctor and have it checked out least it gets worse and stops your regular movements.

Muscle knots form because spasms which occur after injury to certain parts of the muscle keep the muscle continuously "on". Normally, even when doing heavy lifting, no muscle is working continuously. Instead, as the body moves in normal activities, different muscles cycle on and off. The spasm makes the muscle work continuously, around the clock. The muscles are not designed for this continuous work. After some amount of time the muscle overloads and forms these knots. Treating spasm helps reduce this problem. Spasm occurs after other kinds of injuries, but muscle knots only become a problem when the source of the pain doesn't go away quickly. This happens most often (but not only) with injuries to the neck and back, very much like your problem.

There are several methods to treat muscle knots. It is better to see a health-care specialist to find out which one works best for you. Also, exercise is an important method. Often, it can be a supplement to the other treatments. Massage therapy is also helpful. Therapeutic massage of this type can be uncomfortable when it is being done, but you are expected to feel better later. Treatment in the category called "modality", heat, cold, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation, as applied by a physical therapist or chiropractor, can help with muscle knots. Injections into the muscle knots, called trigger point injections, are another method of treatment. Acupuncture can have an impact on these areas also.

Hope this helps.
