Good Multivitamin-minerals for Women?!

Question: Can anyone recommend a good multi-vit-min for me? I was also wondering if there were any Canadian standards with regards to recommended daily intake amounts... I really want to be taking something that is high quality and safe.

I use Dr. Micheal Murray's formulation by Natural Factors, for women my age. I like it, covers all the basics. It is just basics though, if you have extra needs, take them individually for best benefit - I supplement A, C, E and B complex.

Though whole foods is the best way to get your vitamins and minerals, sometimes other issues and even season can affect your ability to get those. Supplementing then becomes an option. What you get in a whole food will come with all the other nutrients needed for proper use, so it is always preferable when possible. Make sure your diet is full of healthful whole foods, then supplement if necessary.

Whether or not you use a multi-vitamin, consider adding a daily dose of Cod Liver Oil to your regimen, or freshly ground flax seed (which we cook with). Those are closer to whole foods and give you some good things most diets are missing - like Omega 3s.

Don't know about Canada's recommendations for supplements. Sorry. Government recommendations aren't usually that reliable anyway, since they aren't based on the individual. Each individual has different interrupters, needs and lifestyle effects, so supplementation shouldn't really be brought down to averages.

Personally I have used for about 2 years now the Detoxigreens from www.drnatura.com. The Detoxigreens are a high potency blend of all essential vitamins and minerals (except iron) combined with enzymes, amino acids, and green phytofoods. I have never been able to find such a complete vitamin and I swear by them. My husband takes them and also my 8 year old son. With my son I empty one capsule that I blend into a smoothie every morning. He has been taking this for about 1 year and has never had any problems with them.

Go to the website www.drnatura.com and click onto the first site then click on to "products" on the top of the page, scroll down to Detoxigreens and click on that to read about them. You can also click on to the ingredients and you will see how great they are. They even include barley grass, spirulina, chlorella, wheat grass, alfalfa, etc. The cost is $28.00 for 1 month supply but if you buy 3 bottles it costs $58.80 so you save $25.20. That is how I purchase it and I will never buy any other vitamin. (As you can see I feel very strongly about these! LOL!) Oh, and with these vitamins you don't need to supplement with anything else as they are so complete!
