St. John's Wort caused laughing fit?!
Question: I bought St John's Wort as a gift for someone close to me who suffers from anxiety/depression, but then found out that he cannot take it before he consults a doctor.
Since I am fond of herbs I decided to take the medicine myself to test its effectiveness. I have been taking 2 capsules for the past three days, and today I have been in a VERY good mood, so good that I broke into a laughing fit over things that i don't usually find extremely funny.
Could this be the herb at work..?
Or could it be just me?
(Note: Everything else in my day was ordinary.)

That is a placebo effect. It takes 2-4 weeks before this reaches therapuetic levels in the blood stream.
Likely just you. St John's Wort doesn't make you "happy", it counters depression. When the depressive feelings subside, you don't start feeling happy, you just no longer feel unaccountably sad. Perhaps there's something else going on?
