The generic name is the drug name suchas Tylenol is Acetaminophen. The only way you can get it without a prescription is if the FDA approves it to be OTC (Over The Counter) like Prilosec and Claritin used to be prescriptions as did Zyrtec which will be on the shelves very soon.

No. Generic means the copyright has run out, so you can get a cheaper version by prescription. Same drug just generic.
