I have been told that : If the Christian guidlines are followed,?!

Question: then it becomes an impossibility for anyone to become addicted by self abuse, and by self abuse I mean, that they have not been forced by someone into drug taking Now, I know many non practicing Christians, the one's who are forever in trouble with the law, but I dont know any who actually practice living as a Christian should. Has anyone got any views on this. ? I am asking this as a question of drug prevention, and not as a plug for Christianity.

If you have a moral code from nearly anywhere (humanist, christian, whatever) and you follow it, you won't get hooked on drugs.

This is purely because any moral code that's worth the tin it comes in will teach that you should look after your body and mind.

They're all pretty much the same on this point. They differ wildly on other subjects.

I actually know a retired minister that was addicted to prescription medicine for about 20 years. He would go to great lengths to get medication to get him high.

I live my life for Christ and believe me, it's definitely possible to have an addiction whilst still living your life for Christ. Jesus came for the sinners (because we ALL are sinners), which means that none of us will ever be perfect. I struggled with an eating disorder (which is an addiction) and I was still a devoted Christian. Granted, Christ is the one who HEALED me of my eating disorder...still, no one is immune from having an addiction. Christians are still humans, which means that we make mistakes, bad choices, and can have addictions.

every christian is at a different stage of development, both in their faith levels and in letting go of all the things that need to be dealt with. Change takes time, christians are human beings too and even the most committed of christians can take time to change and let go of old things. As I said, becoming like jesus is really an impossibility for us as we're so flawed, so every day christians take another step towards it but everyone is at a different stage. non christians expect christians to be suddenly perfect because they're a christian but it doesnt work like that. it takes time as it's a process.

Good luck

In my humble opinion, that simply isn't true. I know many christians that are addicted to things, be it drugs, alcohol or cigarettes. That doesn't make them bad people, it just makes them human.

I think they were using an extreme point where a Christian has gotten to that spiritual point in their life where they no longer struggle with temptations and desires but that takes a lot of
prayer and a work in progress. Also there are many professing Christians as well as many who are sincere but just can't seem to get past their pain.
