I prefer fish oil as its omega 3 only and as humans we need twice the amount of omega 3 in our bodies to omaga 6. Flax oil is omega 3 and 6 together. Most people have too much omega 6 in their diet already as most vegetable/olive/sunflower oils etc are omega 6. So by taking a fish oil supplement you can raise youre omega 3 levels. i always choose an ultra clean variety thats been tested for mercury/pcb's/dioxins and one that has a high epa/dha levels. Alot of cheaper fish oils usually have a epa of 180 over a dha of 120. I spend a bit more on my fish oils and get one with an epa of 300 and a dha of 200. Fish oils have a better effect on memory and concentation than flax oil due to its dha levels (docosahexaenoic acid). Epa (eicosapentaenoic acid) is beneficial for joints and is an effective anti inflammatory. the epa/dha levels must always be listed on the bottle and the benefit of taking a higher quality fish oil is you can take less. Flax oil is useful as an anti immflamatory also but I prefer fish. With regular fish oil you need at least 6 per day. 2 in a.m 2 at lunch and 2 in the p.m. After one month of this everything will glow, Ive stopped using moisturiser. Anyway sorry to get all technical i run a health food shop and we sell loads of supplements and its my job to filter thru all these and research them. Best of luck!

To me the biggest difference is the taste but the flax is about just about as bad.

They are both really great and both are high in Omega-3.

If you do a web search on "benefits of fish oil" and "benefits of flax seed oil" you can read through some of the sites and compare them.

Another one you might want to check out is "benefits of borage oil". I take this daily and it is higher in GLA than Evening Primrose and Black Currant. It is great for arthritis,
skin health, diabetic neuropathy, cardiovascular disease, cholesterol, artherosclerotic plaque, and high blood pressure.

flax and fish oils are both omega 3 fa's. Fish oil is in the form of DHA and EPA, simply read the label of your current bottle and you will see what I am talking about. Flax is not in this form I think it is linoleic acid. Our bodies do have the limited capacity to turn the fatty acids in flax into EPA, DHA but not well. This is the most effective form, the form in fish. Stick with the fish it is way good.

Fish oil is the one to take if you want brain benefits. The omega 3 in fish oil is DHA and EPA and whilst both have some heart benefits DHA also has some brain benefits.

The omega 3 in flax oil as well as soy products and walnuts is ALA which has some heart benefits but no brain benefits. Only about 5 -10% of ALA is metabolised to DHA so fish oil is much better if you want brain benefits.

I have read that fish oil is the best, but to be honest with you it gave me horrid fish breath all day long and I got yeast infections from it. I switched to flax and haven't had a problem.
