Limit his television time. Read to him starting at an early age, and encourage him to read when he gets older. Books will stimulate his imagination.

Limit the amount of sugar and refined foods he eats. Healthy food makes a healty body and healthy mind.

As he gets older, encourage him to think. Encourage him to talk with you about what he learns in school. Ask him his opinion about things, including "adult" things like politics, so he can develop his own opinions and not just believe what he is told.

Best of luck with your baby boy. Enjoy him!

well I guess teaching him different languages is the best thing to do.

read to him a lot, provide toys that are stimulating. Certainly feed him a well balanced diet (don't worry about supplements). Make sure he is physically healthy. Avoid TV. Spend lots of quality time talking to him (in proper English) and teaching him things when he's young. Young brains can absorb so much. Expose him to a lot of different things. Play with him too. Keep his interest up and teach him how to be curious by exploring things with him. He'll learn by your example. A kid who is curious and can problem solve will be intelligent.

you need to creat the "desire to learn" in him... you can do this by getting him used to being around books... reading a lot in front of him, then when he shows the interest, you read to him....
No TV... most tv programs these days tell people how to think, and this is not correct, instead you could CHOOSE fims and progrmas for him to watch....
you can also teach him a lot through games, but he needs to be interested, if he doesn't show interest, stop it and try it at a different time, never force him...
good luck

Treat him as tho he is a young man now not a baby. Allow him to enjoy being a child, but no baby talk he is above that, realize that, and see the response you get, help him understand how smart he is by challenging him consistently, my son is 14 now and looking to try and finish high school 2 years early because he knows that knowledge is portable and will be the only thing that you can TAKE HOME! He is in first year of high school already challenging 11th grade studies. always looking to find a win-win situation seeking out the solution to the problem rather than focusing on the problem!!!

Feed him whole foods, salads and limit junk food and sweets. With my boys until they were about 5 a candy bar to them was a granola bar, preferred string cheese to candy, everyone was surprised they liked salad, and chose it at a restaurant.

Talk to him about the world around him and anything you can think of, read to him, always treat him as if he is old enough to understand adult talk, and his understanding will increase, but limit bad or inappropriate talk.

Use big words with him, expand his vocabulary and understanding, explain as much as you can, understand that simple answers may be all that is needed for now, don't go over board (especially on sex talks, he will ask about 3-4 years old), go to the dictionary or encyclopedia as needed.

Don't be afraid to say you don't know the answer, but you can help him find the answer, or encourage him to find the answers himself. Some times it may be when he is older, like with physic's, etc.

Remember for him everything is a learning experience, treat it all as so and the 2's thru the teens will be a binding time. From the time they can walk they are learning to be independent you need to balance it with his level of understanding and responsiblity.

Good Luck and Have FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They have a program that develop your child's basic development blocks. Getting a great foundation to start on! Last time I heard they where busy translating into English...I will look around if I can find the English translation!
Even it there site is not translated yet, they do have all their material available in English!

Please, whatever you do, feed him high quality fish oil supplements. Check how old he should be before you start feeding him this, but it seriously develops the brain better than without it. I have read countless studies about it, it your want more information read the book (or the parts that apply to you) The Omega Zone http://www.amazon.com/Omega-Rx-Zone-Mira...

There are many studies to back it up, and the references are in the book.

And I would take it, too. It helps with post-partum depression (all types of depression) and adult brain cell's too.

And of course, a multi vitamin, raw frutis and veggies, a good diet with meats of course and enough fats, 30% meats, 30% fats, 30% carbs. Fats are essential for brain growth. and NO sugar whatsoever. There is not need for sugar and it does kill brain cells and do a host of other bad things. If he never gets started on the junk food, he really won't have hankerings for them. Sugar is addictive meaning the more you eat, the more you want to eat. If you eat non at all, you really have not craving for it.

And he has to exercise all his life. Exercise grows brain cells all through life.

ngredients for Building a Big Brain

1. A diet low in refined carbohydrates with adequate nutrients
2. Extreme caution in the use of medication
3. Adult companionship
4. Stimulation from active play, toys, books and games
5. Limiting toxic foods and drinks

From the above list, you've probably realized it's up to parents and adults to help children learn how to talk, listen, pay attention and show them how to work through problems. Older folks can show kids, by example, how to do these things pretty naturally through a variety of simple adventures: Music, dance, nature walks, caring for pets and reading stories.

Brain development is also closely tied to motor systems and spinal health. Sometimes, recess, playing kickball, climbing on the jungle gym or even a trip to the chiropractor does more for a child's intellectual development than another page of math or history. (It should be noted that a well functioning spine, music, dance and creative play should not to be cut in lieu of yet another physics calculation.)

Keys to a Light Brain

* Academic insensitivity
* Spinal or cranial injuries
* Medications
* Toxins
* Poor role models from TV, movies and video games (devices that act as non-human surrogates and take time away from the most important needs children have for learning, social interaction, real life experience and creativity)

I HIGHLY recommend you read The Biology of Belief by Bruce H. Lipton,Ph.D. It talks about Epigenetic s '' mind controlling genes and DNA'', and how it is vital that parents this day and age need to know exactly what and what not to do when it comes to input, specifically words, beliefs, surroundings, in a developing mind. And the ill effects physically, emotionally and mentally of poor upbringing.

Happy Journeys

I think contact and stimulation are important. I remember my Mom reading me Wind in the Willows when I was young. I think reading to your kids is BY FAR the best way to help them do better in school later on and it's been proven many times over!
Also, be active in their homework and school projects (don't do them for them obviously) but sit with them as they work, let them know you think they are doing great and that you care about their education.
Also, when I was a kid we had National Geographic (the old ones are best! You can get them at Goodwill Stores for almost nothing these days!) and also the Life Science Series books, and Time Life science books too. They are really amazing and still totally accurate, amazing since they are 30 years old. They are very well written and perfect for a bright middle school child. I thought they were interesting and now my kids read them too and really like them. No science books are this well written these days.
You can find the whole sets sometimes for very cheap at second hand stores. Hunt them out - you won't regret it and neither will your kids as it will help them LOADS in school.

While he is still a baby talk to him alot.Every chance you have point things out to him and tell him what they are,what purpose they have and what they do.I talked to my oldest son all the time.Pointed out everything and read to him every night.He has a incredible vocab. Most adults I know are so surprized when they hear him talk about things.He's a total fact junkie.He is in the 4th grade and has a 8th grade vocab. already.I think genes have some to do with it to but also instill a love of learning.Make sure he gets involved in things he enjoys like sports or music.
