Physical therapy is much better at relieving pain than pills.

Unfortunately not. As its name says us, Calcium supplements are only supplements. It doesn't help any kind of pain. A Bufferin would help you way more.

Calcium is really only for bone health... it doesn't help directly for the joints.
However, there are several natural supplements that help joint health, which may remove the cause of the pain. The most popular are Microlactin, Tart Cherries, Glucosamine, Chondroitin, MSM, Hyaluronic Acid, Litozin (Danish Rose Hips), and Bromelain.
The only thing to really watch out for is allergies. Glucosamine is typically from Shellfish and Microlactin is from milk. As long as you're not allergic to those, you should have no problem. Good luck!

Calcium will help maintain bone integrity, but will not affect pain levels in any way. Yes you can take glucosamine and see it that helps. You may want to try spinning as a way to increase the mobility and strengthen your knees. Low impact and if done correctly is good for the knees.

Calcium is a more for bone health so you should take it. But if you want something natural that will help then I would go with some anti-inflammatory and cox-2 inhibitor supplements. Something like Isotonix resveratrol, Omega 3 fish oil, and/or Isotonix OPC-3. They are great for helping with arthritis and the pain it causes. You can check it out for yourself at the link below.

I have had osteoarthritis in my left knee for some time (sports injury). I use Greens + bone building formula, 4 grams of Vitamin C, 4000IUs of Vitamin D, extra Magnesium and Ginger supplements. Also I do lots of walking and weights for knees and hamstrings.

I have tried about everything else in the last 10 years and this regimen is working for pain at the moment.
