I've been told that eating oatmeal and cheerios helps.

Lower your salt intake....exercise...both in moderation.

From what I've always heard, GARLIC taken in a capsule or eaten raw, lowers cholesterol. Eating sensibly and moderate exercise helps also.

Switch to low fat everything - skim milk, skinless chicken and fish, lean pork and beef, lowfat butter and cheese, eggbeaters, healthy cooking oils like olive oil or safflower oil, etc.. Also, a high fiber diet will assist your cholesterol, as will a niacin supplement.

Probably the most underrated cholesterol moderator is low-intensity exercise - walking, housework, etc. Make sure and do sustained (at least 20-30 minutes every day) of some low intensity exercise and it will pay off.

a shot of apple cider vinegar every morning will do the trick ...works for me.......seamanab x

cut out transfats like crisco/wesson type oils vegetable, corn, canola, etc....

There are 2 basic types of cholesterol:

* Low-density lipoprotein (or LDL) cholesterol is a bad type of cholesterol that is most likely to clog blood vessels, increasing your risk for heart disease. A diet high in saturated fat is a major dietary cause of raised LDL cholesterol.
* High-density lipoprotein (or HDL) cholesterol is a good type of cholesterol. HDL cholesterol helps clear the LDL cholesterol out of the blood and reduces your risk for heart disease. A diet rich in fruit and vegetables, with appropriate levels of omega-3/fish oil can help raise HDL cholesterol levels.

Eat high fiber, garlic, celery,
omega fatty acid, co Q 10 and magnesium are all good for high cholestrol

ALL I CAN DO IS TELL WHAT I DID FOR MINE. GO TO THE STORE AND BUY YOU SOME GARLIC PILLS, THE STRONGER DOSE THE BETTER. THE BEST IS THE ODERLESS KIND. TAKE TWO IN THE AM AND TWO IN THE PM. IN SIX MONTHS MINE COME FROM 195 TO RIGHT NOW AT 154 AND ALL I TAKE NOW IS 1 AM AND 1 PM. THIS IS A NATURAL HERB WHICH WILL NOT HARM THE BODY IN ANY WAY. I TAKE A LOT OF NATURAL HERBS FOR DIFFERENT THINGS AND MY DOCTOR IS SATISFIED WITH THE RESULTS. I AM DIBEATIC.

A niacin supplement
No hydrogenated fats
less animal products
more Omega fatty acids
exercise

Diets high in omega 3 fatty acids and whole grain oats. at least 60 min of moderate exercise a day, working toward a 10 to 15% reduction in bodyweight.

My family swears by eatting oatmeal. A warm cereal that's high in fiber every morning has done wonders for several people in my crew.

There are lots of different opinions on cholesterol, almost as many as there are medications.
Why do we have cholesterol? It's an antioxident and scavenger of free radicals and it protects our cell membranes and makes them waterproof. It supports them and gives them strong walls to defend against toxins. We need this protection so the cells may regulate their internal environment undisturbed... essential to good health and for your body to fight off invaders and heal itself.

Having low cholesterol is not an indication of excellent health. You have to look at the big picture. Do we eat whole and unprocessed foods? Do we include lots of raw and naturally fermented organic fruits, vegetables and dairy? Do we use only high grade grass-fed meats and pastured eggs? Raw dairy (don't say ewWWW!) ;) Do we avoid sugar laden drinks and opt for pure natural spring waters and teas? Do we avoid OTC and Rx medications. Do we practice healthy social options? Do we smoke, drink un-naturally processed alcohol? Do we clean our homes and clothing with non-toxic natural cleansers? Do we get enough rest, sleep and play? Do we practice relaxation such as prayer, deep breathing, massage etc?

A quote from E.M. Cranton, MD and J.P. Frackelton, MD
Journal of Holistic Medicine is as follows:
"... Total cholesterol (reflected by blood cholesterol) is determined primarily by cholesterol synthesis inresponse to ongoing oxidative stress from free-radicals, not primarily by dietary cholesterol intake. Serum cholesterol levels are indicators of free radical damage and, therefore, correlate with the risk of atherosclerosis. Cholesterol is synthesized in the body as needed and with epidemic free radical
dis-eases, blood cholesterol levels increase with age... Dietary restriction of cholesterol and medications to reduce cholesterol have been counterproductive in the treatment of atherosclerosis because the antioxident role of cholesterol has not been recognized. Unoxidized cholesterol is widely dispersed in cell membranes as a protective factor against atherosclerosis, cancer and other free radical induced
dis-eases."

Show me someone who is over-weight, stressed and suffering from various illnesses and I'll show you someone who is very unhealthy in every other area of their life. Getting back to the basics takes education, time and commitment. Not Jenny Craig, Lean Cuisine or surgery.

Our bodies are an amazing vessel, able to heal, repair, reset and reconstruct themselves. We have to provide the correct environment though. If we constantly put in junk, what else can we expect our body to give back?

We need to all better understand the role of these various naturally occuring materials in our bodies and fight those people and corporations who profit from the production and consumption of the poisons we are encouraged we cannot live without. Pop Tarts, Fritos, Wonderbread, Producers milk, Bayer, McDonald's... These are all a sign of the times. Let's move on, shall we? ;)
