Does Anyone Know of Natural Methods to Fall Asleep?!

Question: I have tried melatonin, sleeptime teas, and prescription drugs, but have not worked. Any suggestions? I can't sleep due to stresses in my life.

Answers: I have tried melatonin, sleeptime teas, and prescription drugs, but have not worked. Any suggestions? I can't sleep due to stresses in my life.

You may need to address the stress issue instead of the sleep issue. Chamomile tea is specifically relaxing, and melatonin can work for insomnia, but if your brain is running 100mph, you need to get it relaxed. Stress usually causes an overactive mind that can't shut down.

Meditation and prayer are good for shifting focus from the stress elements in your life. Also, an Epsom salt bath - 2 cups salt in bath, soak 20 minutes. Add a few drops of lavender oil. Reroute your thoughts with soothing music, whatever your favorite it. Close the day with positive thoughts.

If the stress is external, you won't get relief until you remove the stress source. For example: a spouse or mate who chooses bedtime to pick a fight. A neighbor's dog who won't stop barking (ear plugs might work). A neighborhood with a party atmosphere after dark (police work well for that). Those are external stress sources that will need to be dealt with for you to relax and sleep.

Some stress sources are internal though. Do you dwell on the stress of the work day - then relaxing and refocusing is needed. Do you instigate stress in the evening hours? Say, do you call a gossip friend? Do you talk with contrary family members on the phone? Do you try to do your budget before bed? These you can control to an extent, as they are personal choices.

Try to make your evening hours low light and low stress. No tv or computer, they are not low light.

There may be also underlying nutritional imbalance that stress you from the inside out. Things that normally you could handle seem larger than life when your system is out of sync.

That's all I can think of for now. I hope you find a way to get a refreshing sleep, sometimes that is the best destressing tool of all.

Best health to you .

This will sound stupid but it worked for me. Try to get comfortable then count backward from 100. Good luck.

Close your eyes!!! j/k. I have this problem sometimes because I have so much going on in my life and I'm always go go go...try a glass of warm milk...it may sound funny but it actually works!! Good Luck, Sleep tight!!!

Lie comfortably on your back. Beginning with your toes and working upward, tighten then relax each muscle.

When all else fails: sex.

It is those stresses that keep you awake. Thinking too much on something will keep you awake.Clear your mind when going to sleep.

Also drinking milk can make you sleepy. Try warm milk. There is tryptophan in milk that reduces traffic to your brain and makes you sleepy.

Other suggestions for a good sleep are the following:

A warm bath before trying to sleep can calm you down. Having exercise in the afternoon help others sleep smoothly.

Make sure the room, where you will be sleeping, is dim and cool. The body usually feels sleeping during those times.

Sleep and wake the same time everyday even on weekends on when you do not have work. It is conditioning your body clock when to sleep and when not to.

Exercising a lot during the day will help. (Don't over do it of course.) It make you tired and ready for sleep! But latest you should exercise is 3 hours before you want to go to sleep. Also, try taking a nice long hot bath right before bed. It will make you relaxed and calm. Hope I helped!

Go catch some zs!!

I sleep really good when I take Spirulina. You can get it at your vitamin store in powder or pill form. I mix the powder with OJ in the morning and drink it with my breakfast. I noticed a difference in my sleep right away. The pill form upset my tummy so I just use the powder. Also I drink it through a straw because it looks like dark grass.

I tried valarian root (seemed to work OK). I also bought a "sleep" CD on Amazon.com and some "sleep" pillow speakers. These are great - you plug them into the cd headphone jack and insert them into your pillow. Then I fall asleep to this CD which helps relax. I also used to wake up every hour and not be able to get back to sleep - and this helps also.

so called modern medicines like alprazolam, lorazepam , diazepam and others depress ur functional activity and requires much more dose then previous to effect later on which can be quite deceptive....
