As far as I cant tell, the use of any laxatives, including all the expensive "Colon Cleanses" that the patent medicine hucksters promote, is at best worthless, and at worst can lead to serious problem in the gastric system, by preventing the proper generation and absorption of some vitamins in the Colon, Vitamin K for one.

Based on what I have read in Biology and about these, they are both expensive and dangerous.

If you eat a good balance of food and take the proper amount of liquid, you do not need a "colon cleanse," ever!

Just a total waste of money and somewhat dangerous to your vitamin balance.

It also leads to addiction, since the colon gets used to not moving food along properly, but being prodded, and you can develop impaction, bad impaction, if you are forced off the stimulant the colon has come to expect!

Two good reasons to shun these. If you eat properly, get enough natural bulk (greens, etc) and enough liquid, the body will take care of itself.

If you ever really need to clear stuff out, drinking a quart or two of bottled apple juice, preferably whole juice, not reconstituted, you will clear, Prune juice is the old standard and works too,.

But you do NOT need these colon cleaners, and they do harm your overall health. And are addictive, physically and emotionally.

Salt Water Flush (didn't work for me but heard that it works)
Dr. Natura ( did work some)
Colonic ( didn't work that much because I was on Dr. Natura)
Bowtrol (worked well)
Smooth Move ( worked well)

Bowtrol + Smooth Move = Total Explosion (have the day off before trying this one)

Waste of money.

Don't believe the lies that the cleanser salesmen tell you. It's all bullsh!t. You don't need to "cleanse" your colon unless you're having some sort of medical/surgical procedure.

If anyone tries to tell you "There is buildup in your colon, and toxicity in your body, from the diets we eat," they are either lying or delusional. Both statements are FALSE.

Colon cleanses are wonderful (and I'm not a salesman). They really do help get things cleaned out, lined up and functioning properly again. The best ones actually take a long time to use - more than a week or two - because they work slowly, naturally with your body. I've used the Ultimate Cleanse, and want to try Garden of Life's cleanse next time.

There is buildup in your colon, and general toxicity in your body, from the diets we eat in the 21st Century. If anyone tries to tell you differently, they just don't know or are deluding themselves. Good for your for checking it out and getting yourself one. I prefer herbal cleanses. Look for psyllium on the label. If it has that, then definitely easy does it, as that is a strong fiber laxative that if increased too quickly will give you stomach aches.

As for the quackwatch site that you have been Spammed with - it has been thoroughly discredited by http://www.quackpotwatch.com Colon cleanses are safe, healthful and a great way to improve your health.

When you are done with the cleanse, consider adding flax seed to your routine. It is a great fiber addition, gives you Omega 3s, antioxidants and other good stuff. Just grind up a tablespoon a day in a cheap coffee grinder and add to cereals, muffins, protein drinks or just drink in a glass of water. That will help keep you cleaned out and running well between cleanses. Remember to always drink plenty of water, especially when taking flax and during your cleanse.
Best health to you.

For colon cleanses, I only trust Dr. Schulze's cleanses, they are by far the highest quality and most effective.

I prefer to use an Oxygen Intestinal Cleanser called Oxy-Powder. I know not all products work for all people. An oxygen based intestinal cleanser not only with help your body to rid itself of the toxins. You will also benefit from the oxygen that is released to the rest of the body. Every person can benefit from it and you will be able to absorb any other supplements that you take more efficiently. I have been taking the product on and off for 3 years now. The product is safe and effective to take indefinitely if you choose to do so.I would make sure that you are drinking plenty of water. The usual recommendation is to take your body and divide it by two. The result is the minimum number of ounces that you should consume per day.

My sister is a colon therapist. She introduced me to colonics, at first I thought it would really difficult to do, but the affects of colonics over pills or enemas is incredible. The health benefit is tremendous and the more knowledge you can gain the more you will want one. Just look at the yahoo images for diseased colons.

Colon Cleanse is really great and the safest one i can suggest is using psyllium husk. It's mild so you can use it everyday. Sometimes it comes with a combination of Senna Leaf (Smooth Move has this). Based on some study senna leaf is not advisable for long term use because it cause thinning of our stomach lining.

Just look at the ingredients and search for some information about it.

Colon cleansing is the process of introducing gentle jets of water into the large intestine for washing away waste matter and toxins. However, the process of eliminating toxins can cause some minor intestinal problems. Once the mucous buildup begins to leave the body, minute amounts may be reabsorbed along the way. The toxin absorption can result in cold or flue like symptoms (which may include nausea, headaches, and dizziness) but will ultimately reverse itself once the outflow diminishes. In fact, getting rid of all that toxic debris can lead to increased energy, mental clarity, and overall feelings of wellbeing.
