What are some home remedies for the common cold?!

Question: For the common cold Mullein tea is great. You can find it at your health food store, or mullein grows wild in vacant lots! Pick your own. http://www.ashtreepublishing.com/Book_Ci...
Steep the herb for 5-8 minutes and add honey to sweeten. It is a good tasting tea. You can also buy it prepackaged at http://www.iherb.com

Sweeten your tea with honey. Honey is a natural immune booster (as are garlic and vinegar)

Vitamin C - 500 mg 2 x a day

Garlic, lots and lots of fresh garlic. Great for a cold.

Apple cider vinegar - 1 tsp in a glass of apple juice.

Chicken soup or hot chicken bouillon. Add ginger, thyme and sage.

DO NOT consume refined sugar or artificial sweeteners. No sodas, Twinkies, etc. Sugar is a natural immune suppressant and will make your body work harder to get well.
Artificial sweeteners are equally hard on the system, including liver and kidneys which are working to get you well.

I've heard of zinc being used, but never had to bother with all the other stuff I've listed.

Best health to you.

lots of fluids

Combine equal parts of honey, lemon juice and Jack Daniels, heat in microwave and sip.

Booze is good.

There is NO CURE. There are however ways to treat the symptoms. Your body must fight the infection itself. Colds and flus are caused by viruses. Anti-biotics are for bacterial infections. Bacteria and viruses are completely different. To attempt to fight a viral infection with anti-biotics would be like trying to fight a fire with light. That said, to treat symtoms, you can brew some ginger tea with lemon and honey to treat a sore throat. Get some ginger root, grate it into a mug, add hot water, squeeze in some lemon juice, add some honey, mix it, and sip while it is still hot. To treat congestion, go outside and harvest eucalyptus leaves. Boil a pot of water, drop in the leaves, and breathe the steam. Do NOT drink it, it is poisonous for humans to eat eucalyptus leaves. Alternatively, you can pluck some fresh mint leaves and rip them as you drop them into the boiling water. Breathe in the steam, this too will alleviate congestion. Eating spicy foods can help clear sinus congestions as well as temporarily relieve a sore throat. Avoid dairy. Lots of fluids will help the body flush itself of toxins, water is best. Avoid highly caffeinated beverages. A steam room helps you just feel good. A hot shower is a good substitute. Avoid alcohol. It will dehydrate you and give you a hangover. Last and most important is rest. You need to rest and relax so your body can fight the infection. Don't go out and party, don't go out drinking. Stay home, relax, take it easy, rest. That's it. Oh ice packs. If you get a headache, ice packs help. Heat packs help with sore joints and muscles. Crush ice into a ziplock bag, cover with one layer of a hand towel if you must, and put it on your head/face. Heat is harder to do. Get some dry uncooked rice, put it in a sock or some other clean dry bag and nuke it. It will heat up and be a hot bean-bag type thing that you can use as a heat pack.
