Is this insulting to other users?!

Question: I was recently "Violated" for telling a user to please learn to spell or at least use the spell check button. Was this insulting or did the user just have her feelings with her?

I wouldn't lose any sleep over "violations"...I think sometimes Yahoo picks answers at random...and just doesn't care WHAT the answer was..I have had violation notices for ...?I can honestly say..."I do not have a clue as to why I was given it"...and furthermore...you may notice that some Yahoo questions should be sent violation notices.!

It is good to hav the right spelling but sometimes it's also ok to write slang to set the tone of the sentance.
They proably thought you was being snooty

No, i believe your were trying to improve the Yahoo Answer community.

Sometimes you get violated for nothing. If anybody violates you for any reason it just automatically goes through. It's not like anybody verifies it or anything. So don't take it personally.

it depends how you said it, in this case you obviously offended her by the way you said it but she probably just took it the wrong way. next time if it annoys you again just hod your tongue (and keyboard lol) , because by the sounds of it you don't really want to offended someone else.

no it is okay

Dear Brother, it is just seems that the YAHOO ANSWERS STAFF is gone to a very long coffee break to Antartica and has in the meantime delegated the responsibilities to certain pranksters who just visit this forum without making any contribution other than REPORT ABUSING answers.

I see lot of people riding vehicle in a NO ENTRY street. But when I do it , policeman catches me and penalises me. To my argument, he agrees he has seen many but could not penalise them for his own reasons/inefficiency,may be.. II HOPE AND TRUST THAT MY REPLY LIKE THIS WILL NOT BE REPORTED FOR ABUSE.

Probably most users have received the occasional Violation Notice so you could just shrug it off.

It seems that if at least two (2) people report an answer or a question that they believe violates the Community Guidelines then the answer or question is automatically deleted and you get a Violation Notice.

You can actually appeal against such a Violation Notice if you believe that your answer or question should be reinstated and that the deletion was not justified but it is a lot of trouble and you might prefer to just shrug it off and forget about it.

In your case the reason might have been that you were deemed to have insulted another user and that contravenes the Community Guidelines.

i guess it depends on who you told. different people find different things insulting. i wouldn't tell anyone to spell right myself. it may not have been the person you told to learn to spell who reported you either. it could have been someone else who was mad at you. people here talk about being followed around by others who just report them for everything. what i read about reporting is that only one person who is a respected reporter can get a violation sent. you can appeal it they say. i think you are supposed to just answer the questions and not address other issues - like spelling. i'm new, but that is my take. sorry about the violation.
