Technically, no, it doesn't count.

Aromatherapy is a medicinal therapy based around essential oils, and essential oils only. Scented candles, scented dish washing soap, and scented plug-ins may claim to be aromatherapy, but they are most definitely not.

The best thing I can think of right now to compare it to is real potted plants vs. plastic. Yes, fake plants can sometimes look nice, and they add a life-like green quality to an interior room, but they aren't really comparable to real plants. A real plant looks nice and adds the green, but it also has life, "spirit", it helps filter the air and gives off oxygen.

There should probably be some sort of name for chemical based aroma products, but I don't know what that is. I can understand how it confuses people.

You are not confused. Feeling chilled out or relaxed is one of the main reasons people do aromatherapy.

Relaxation can be a result of certain aromatherapy oils, if they are essential oils and not just chemical "smell-alikes." But watching a flame flicker can also be relaxing and soothing.

Aromatherapy can be achieved through scented candles, diffusers, sprays, massage oils, warm baths or simply putting a few drops on a tissue to wave under your nose or wear in your pocket.

Some soothing scents are Lavender, Chamomile, Bay, Bergamot, Clary Sage, Ormensis, Lemon Balm (Melissa), Linden, Jasmine, Neroli & Ylang-ylang.

Youre "confused.com".anyway aromatherapy stinks. Lol.
