Ecstasy...?!

Question: what r ur thoughts on the drug. is there any way to reduce any damage it does to the brain?

Okay, first of all do not listen to ANYONE about the effects of a drug on your body, 7 out of 10 people have no idea what their talking about, for example the lady on here who says she is a nurse... around 60 people die EVERY YEAR(In the U.S.) while on ecstasy, and thats not bad considering about 1 million take it every single weekend. Generally people die from heat exhaustion, dehydration, etc. Because the people who take the drug are generally at all night parties (raves) and are dancing all night... So the only thing you really have to worry about is getting a pure pill.

While ecstasy might not kill, it can damage your brain. MDMA damages the axons in your brain, but everything I've read on it shows that it is reversible over time. But their are ways to prevent this brain damage from ever happening, their was a study(it is on Erowid) and it showed that anti-oxidants can help prevent brain damage because it seems that mdma causes oxidative stress on the brain. Also, Prozac can help, but the problem is that it will dampen MDMA's effects and that can be a problem.

My personal anti-oxidant regimen is:
200 mg Alpha Lipoic Acid
500 mg Magnesium (To prevent jaw clenching)
1000 mg Vitamin C
Any others such as Vitamin E can only help...

After the trip take ALA, Vit C, and also add about 100-200 mg of 5-HTP into it to help regenerate the lost Serotonin.

Although this is harm prevention, as long as you use MDMA and do not abuse it (multiple times every month) you should be ok, even without the antioxidants.

i cant stand it. dont ever do ecstasy. there is no way to reduce the damage. if you just absolutely have to do it, well i cant help you.

this drug is actually more dangerous than people think ...there is not a safe and effective way to assure the dosage in each pill so 1 out of 10 pills can actually kill you ...please dont do this drug ...not worth it

To the last poster (the "nurse")...would you be so kind as to provide some backing for the statement 1 in 10 will kill you???? I'm confused, as there are virtually no deaths directly related to taking an X tab...the deaths are caused by dehydration, and sometimes exhaustion, but not due to the drug itself. No one would use X if it had a 10% fatality rate that's completely ridiculous, and I guarantee you can't provide any documentation to support that statement (false statements are like that...)

This is the problem with the anti-drug crowd...they insist on spewing this nonsense about (drug) with no evidence to back up the statement.

Did you know it used to be prescribed to people to help them with relationship problems? I think that was in the 70's. I know this may sound unlikely but it is true. I actually read it in a school appointed text book. Most people don't know it but Meth is actually prescribed even to this very day for obesity and ADHD. It's funny how the government demonizes a drug while also making it legal to be prescribed. Oh and I just read this, according to wikipedia page taking an antidepressant after the trip can limit it's neurotoxicity.

no. there is no way to reduce the damage. except not take it!
ecstasy is crap. you don't know what is in it nowadays.
And when you are on it, here are some helpful tips:

drink water
The recommended amount of water to drink is 500ml per hour's dancing. Remember: sip, don't gulp. Do not drink too much water.

drink fruit juices
They are more efficient in replacing lost nutrients. Avoid fizzy drinks as they can cause nausea.

take Vitamin C
It's an antoxidant and will prevent MDMA neurotoxicity. Take large amounts of it (500-2000mg) before, during and after. Avoid Vitamin C tablets with artifical sweeteners (see below)

avoid 'diet' drinks
In fact, any drink containing artificial sweeteners (such as aspartame). They contain phenylaline, a substance which increases neurotoxicity of MDMA

avoid alcohol
It increases body temperature, makes the kidneys work much harder and gives a much worse come-down. Almost all E-related deaths have involved alcohol.

take breaks
rising body temperature is the most dangerous physical aspect of Ecstasy use. Take regulars breaks from dancing to cool down. If possible, go outside.

don't mix pills
in the same session to reduce the chance of impurity interactions, or being flattened by two pills with radically different strengths

watch the dose
never take more than two pills, less if you are female and / or you have a small build. Never take two at the same time. The more MDMA you take, the more likely you are to suffer from overheating, neurotoxic effects and memory impairments.

get pills tested using a testing kit
Many users lick pills before buying them in an attempt to identify the taste, but speed and MDMA have almost identical tastes. You can find out about testing kits here.

keep groups of friends together
especially if they are inexperienced users, and be prepared to talk people through bad times; (see our bad trip guide for more details)

leave time between regular Ecstasy use
At least one month, preferably two or three. This will make each occasion much more special; it will also keep your tolerance levels down.
