Herbal remedies for anxiety?!

Question: I am currently on Cipralex (antidepressant) for major depression. Problem is I also have anxiety, but I do not want to take a 2nd medication because it's really addictive.

What type of herbal remedies (Chinese or otherwise) are out there to ease anxiety? I have panic attacks quite often and always tense.

And please don't tell me to ask for anti anxiety meds. My doctor only prescribed one medication, and I'd like to try something more natural.

DO NOT TAKE ST JOHNS WORT WITH CIPRALAX, there is an interaction. if you want to add something to the cipralax add vit B complex ( which calms and hels the cipralax work) and either chamomile tea or a low dose valerian/ hops/ oats combination. Your health shop should be able to advise.

try an infusion (tea) of st. johns wort or valerian root

you can try saint johns wort
but there is also meds. that work on both depression and anxiety out there so you would still just be taking on med. did you tell your doctor that you suffer from both

St John's Wort is supposed to be good for anxiety, depression and stress.

St John's Wort is notorious for interacting with other meds, prescribed and herbal. You should not take it without checking with either your doctor or pharmacist for interactions.

Valerian root is good but can be sedating in moderate amounts and dangerous in large doses. Be careful to watch how much you take and how it effects you. Passion flower is also effective for anxiety.

If you don't have any relief from these herbs you may consider talking to your doctor. Many anti-depressants offer some anti-anxiety benefits. You may very well be able to take one pill that will do 2 jobs.

I would defintely choose to see a doctor while dealing with anxiety. They may prescribe you to anti depressent medications or anxiety that aren't so addictive. Try to stay away from xanax or clopean those are highly addictive but may help you if you don't miss use them.
