Natural Ways to Avoid Heartburn during pregnancy? Food to Eat? Foods to Avoid?!

Question: What are some natural ways to avoid heartburn during pregnancy? Are there certain foods I can eat? Certain foods I can avoid? I know to eat Tums/Rolaids, but I would like some other suggestions to minimize and avoid heartburn. Thanks!

oranges and lemons are very alkaline, and not acid producing, avoid or eat very little red meats, trim fat from all meats....there are lots of acid verses alkaline food charts on line, avoid sugary things such as baked treats.Sometimes regardless of how natural and well you eat you may still get heartburn...good luck

Eat frequent, small meals. Don't eat just before lying down.

Try to avoid foods that are strongly acidic (like oranges) or spicy. Don't use caffeine (from coffee, tea, cola or energy drinks).

Consider lying with the top part of your body propped up a little on pillows- so that gravity works to help keep your stomach acid in your stomach.

Try milk...it should help :)

Take calcium, this is the dumb but it makes sense to me on why it works. the body needs calcium for lots of stuff like building bones and little people, balancing acid levels in the blood and aiding in stomach digestion. so if the body dosen't have enough for the important things it takes it first from the stomach hence indigestion and heart burn.
When i was pregnant when i stopped taking the calcium pills i would get heartburn when i took them i didn't.

But i also find indigestion means a lack in digestive enzymes and fruit and veg are absolutely the best for that.
If you don't want to take pills you can also get it from food like almonds, brocolli and dairy.
Try a nice garden salad at the start of every meal.

And try talking to a midwife for some added nat remedies.

it wont make any difference what you eat i had heartburn a lot when i was carrying my son many years ago, and if i remember rightly i was not eating much of any thing first few months i was vomiting most of the dayand i still had heart burn then i could only eat at night. and my whole pregnancy i could not eat eggs or tomatoe which i love just to look at them made me ill

An apple a day keeps the doctor away.......
Have an apple every day. Eating an apple will reduce the severity of the symptoms.Apple rapidly absorbs the excess acid and prevents heartburns.

Peppermint Tea.

I used to drink this when I had terrible heartburn with my eldest.

You need to avoid spicy foods and avoid overfilling your stomach. Take smaller meals more frequently if you can. Avoid processed rubbish too...no junk.

hope you feel better soon.

hello

I advise against pippermint tea, because it relaxes the lower esophageal sphincter (a muscle which keeps the stomach contents from spelling up to the esophagus). though it is wonderful for colics or gases.

in the Arab world we have a kind of a dairy drink which is called Laban or roab. it is just like plain yogurt but in a liquid form, it worked miracles with my wife during her pregnancy. I think plain yogurt will do the job...

best of luck....
