My hearing is getting worse and I'm only 25 yrs old. Should I try candling t!

Question: My hearing has worsened a little over the years and I'm only 25. Someone suggested I have my 'ears cleaned out.' Is candling safe? The procedure sounds a little intimidating. What other options are there for extracting ear wax?

Also, I'd like to start wearing ear plugs at night (my roommate's room is beside mine and the walls are paper thin), but I heard that this causes ear wax to build up. (Not to mention, I might not hear my alarm clock in the morning or the fire alarm if it sounds.)

I often fall asleep to my iPod (with the volume fairly low, but loud enough to drown out surrounding noises), but I'm afraid that this will worsen my hearing as well.

Thanks for your help.

get someone (doctor or nurse) to look in your ears to confirm and earwax problem before assuming thats what it is. If so, then there are ear drops that will help "dissolve" it, or even just using olive oil works too. If you have a lot of wax they can be flushed out.

If you don't have a wax problem then you should have audiology testing done to see what kind of hearing loss you have. There are different treatments depending.

Ear candling is nonsense. It doesn't do anything other than put you at risk of a burn from melting wax. There have been cases of perforated eardrums from the practice. Don't do it.

See an audiologist for testing. Listening to music all the time is probably affecting your hearing.

Good advise Kadel, only common sence.

No, there are many options, and I am a fan of Alternative Medicines, but not this one. Ear Candeling has been proven not to work. What happens is that after you use them, it appears to have drawn wax out from your ear, but it is actually just smoke and wax from the candle. lol I learned this from watching "The View". They recommended it, and then the next day they had to retract it, and they tried it on a soda bottle and had the same effect. My advice is go see an ear doctor and then take it from there. But I am sure if you want to try it anyway, it probably couldnt hurt! Either way, best of luck to you!!

I agree with the others. It would be a good idea to confirm that ear wax was even the problem before doing something as silly as putting a burning candle in your ear.
