you can also ask at the health food store...the workers there know everything about the stuff they sell. or there's this book in most health food stores called Prescription for Nutritional Healing and it has all the vitamins, herbs, etc., and what they are best used for.

He has a really interesting history as a researcher, as a former pharmacist he had a standard med education,went into business w/ a partner and was exhausted. His partner was keeping up just fine, because he used vitamins. He gives the pros and cons, the cautions as well as the benefits, and specifics, for example: the pill, or smoking, what it robs the body of, etc.
Another great read is : "Dead Doctors Don't Lie" by Joel Wallach who started out as a vet. He researched the oldest living populations in the world, and discovered that they all benefitted from glacial minerals, in their soils and foods.
