Alternative ways to treat anxiety and depression???!

Question: I am taking medicine now for my anxiety and depression. Going through a family crisis and I have made myself ill over it. Migraines, naseua, vomitting, can't sleep, and I constantly worry. I don't like having to rely on medicine. Does anyone have any alternative methods that may help me?

Thank you so much!

Yes, I also recommend acupuncture and herbs, because that's what I do and I know it can help you. There's Chinese herbal formula for your symptoms possibly your acupuncturist and/or herbalist can give to you. This is not an uncommon illness to treat in Chinese Medicine. Getting the treatment now and taking the herbs for your physical problems, while you are working on resolving your emotional issues. We know exercise, yoga and meditation may also help. Most importantly, eliminate your worry and negative thinking ASAP, perhaps by reading some good, encouraging and self-help books, and talk to people who may help. Pray to God. Turn your thoughts around because your mind is absolutely affecting your body in the present. Take a hot bath and drink some warm relaxing herbal tea(non-caffeine) before you go to bed. Relax in calming music. Stop thinking the worse especially during bed time.

Hope those alternative methods help. May your crisis be over soon. Wish you good luck on getting rid of your headache!

Find your faith and go to church. Talk to a priest.

Keep busy, exercise ,try to go for a walk every day.

keep busy, get hobbies, start interests, get involved, join groups, get a close friend, challenge yourself, stay active, excercise, ...

Your anxiety and depression can be caused by several factors but all of them have to do with vitamins and minerals. Go to a doctor or natural doctor and tell him you want tests!!

Some essential tests for you.

Blood work:
Vitamin D Hydroxy 25
Complete Metabolic Panel 20
Thyroid Profile
(Vitamin Bs)

Hair Mineral Analysis: Will tell you a lot about how well you absorb different minerals and what you are difficient in.

Save all that info. The minerals that you are difficient in take supplements or follow instructions from doctor. All this information is priceless when it comes to curing your problem.

Vitamin D is very important, try getting 15 minutes of direct sunlight everyday (exposing atleat 15% of your body). What may help you a lot also is not eating 3-4 hours before bed. And eating well lots of fresh green vegetables.

There are some herbs and supplements that will probably help but I don't recommend them to a great extent, like GABA, St. John's Wort.

Hey there. There's st johns wort... yes also medication but maybe less side effects? Camomile tea is meant to be calming. Also i read about how healthy eating and exercise can actually help with depression. Cos junk food usually just makes us feel worse, and when you exercise it releases endorphines which make you happy! Anyways hope that was some kind of help... :-)

I have some of the same symptoms but in smaller doses anxiety, worry, maybe even small doses of depression. VELLUM would ease me but it's true you can depend on meds in your life not healthy. Eat right, keep busy, exercises, and friends all these things can clear your mind and help your mind stay busy. Trust me. Good Luck and remember just when you think you have it bad there are people going through a lot worse.

Be alone and meditate. I know this sounds stupid, but it really helps. To be in your own self for a minute helps you to understand what you really want in life. Go somewhere that makes you happy and just be alone for a while. Listen to your inner self and breathe.

remember : WE ARE ETERNAL - ALL THiS PAiN iS AN iLLUSiON

St. John's Wort. my husband has taken it for years. they use this in their tea in england. it helps with alot of things, anxiety and depression but it is also known as the womens tonic for PMS. there is a book called the natural prozac and it tells all about this herb. there is less side effects, hardly any.

Melatonin, Relora, St. John's, B vitamins are the most common supplements that people take.

i hate it but they say strenuous exercises

Acupuncture and chinese herbs can help tremendously. There are acupuncturists who specialize in certain areas such as chronic pain, HIV, depression etc and they can prescribe Chinese herbs instead of harmful chemical western medicine.

hm... i wouldn't recommend st john's wort bc of some health risks i've heard of. but i would recommend kanna (sceletium tortuosum), or maybe you have a vitamin D inefficency or something bc of winter? try vitamin D pills or exposing yourself to 15 mins of sunlight every day. look up goji berries too.

dont do it alone. exercise, find hobbies, talk to friends, eat healthy. All these things really help. and sorry about your family crisis.

Chanting nam myoho renge kyo can help.
Buddhism encourages you to chant through your struggles and believe in yourself.

An herb in health food stores called ignatia is supposedly very helpful A therapist suggested it to me, and I looked it up. It seems like a good idea, but I didn't try it.
