universal life force energy - that is what reiki is.... sending energy to your friend does not "make her think of you"... it is the healing light you are sending ... not yourself...
however... are you familiar with law of attraction? ever been thinking of someone and the phone rang and it was them? that would be law of attraction at work... like singing a song and its on the radio... check it out

If you believe in that yes... reiki works by thinking deeply about someone/something and they get the vibrations of energy.
Try doing it without other distractions around. Turn off music and electronics.
It's just like prayer. Works about as well, too.
Reiki is energy and Reiki can be used by physical touch or by holding hands close to the person or item without touching. Reiki can also be sent by distant healing and making it your intent that the energy goes to the person who you are thinking about in your mind's eye.
