Question: Hi, I am suffering from flue since last Monday. It is no ordinary flue it is a severe case of man flue. I do feel rotten. Any suggestions of things I can do to get better? I am taking B.... flu plus but it doesn`t seem to do anything. What do you do when you have a cold? Don`t want to go to the doctors and due to work commitments I can`t stay home either.

Flu:
For nausea - ginger tea. You can make a simple ginger tea with 1/4 tsp ground ginger (cooking spice) in a cup of hot water. Sweeten with honey. Ginger is great for stomach upset and nausea and can be healing. Honey is also healing when you have bacterial or viral issues - like cold or flu

DO NOT eat within 2 hours of vomiting. Drink plenty of clear liquids, water is best, then tea, clear chicken broth, 100% juice (apple is best, cut 1/2 and 1/2 with water). Emergen C is a good nutrient replacement. If you find yourself omitting almost continuously, add a 1/2 tsp of sea salt to your water (about 8 oz). Stir and sip on that.

DO NOT do Gatorade or sodas which have refined sugars that will suppress your immune system and make your body work harder to get well. DO NOT take any refined sugars or artificial sweeteners. Stevia is a good alternative if you want to sweeten your tea and don't have honey.

When you do start to eat again, a poached egg on toast is the most nutrient replenishing, easily digested food. It is always our first meal after the flu. If you have diarrhea you need to go 24 hours without any solids. When you are keeping things down, some great homemade chicken soup wil finish the healing process.

COLD:
Vitamin C, with food. 500 mg, 2x a day. It can upset stomach if taken without food, so if you have the flu at the same time you may want to hold off on C pills and try Emergen C instead.

Same liquids as for flu, except instead of ginger tea use mullein, lemon or peppermint.

Homemade chicken soup.

NO refined sugars - immune suppressants and will make your body work harder to recover. Also no artificial sweeteners, they are hard on the kidneys and will make the body work harder.

If sore throat: grapefruit seed extract liquid - dilute 10 drops in 6 oz of water and gargle. If ear ache, put drops of diluted Grapefruit seed extract in ear. If sinus infection, add diluted GSE to your saline nasal rinse or make your own with 1/4 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp baking soda in 8 oz of warm water. Add 10 drops GSE.

For congestion, you can add mullein to water, boil for 10 minutes or so, then take pot off stove and inhale the steam. Best to cover your head with a cloth to trap steam around face.

FOR FLU OR COLD:
Take 1 tsp apple cider vinegar in 100% apple juice. And add garlic to your routine. Both are very healing for both viral and bacterial issues because they boost your immune system and help it do battle. We do a garlic butter with 1 tablespoon butter and 1 clove crushed garlic and add it to pasta or butter bread and grill it (don't toast as the butter could ignite).

Hope you are feeling better soon.

Drink some gatorade=water and electrolytes to help replenish you.

Have some mint tea, it will calm you and open up your sinus passages.

Take some vitamins.

Tap naps to regain energy.

sleep
chicken noodle soup.
over the counter medicine.

if it lasts more than 7 days see a doctor of call a nurses hotline

plenty of drinks stay in bed and paracetamol oh and you can have th occasional toddy brandy or whiskey or rum bit of sugar and top up with hot water ava star and a kiss to make you feel betterxxxx forgot chicken soup home made

hot water and lemon in the morning with a multi-vitamin and vit c. then try a new remedy for the day sorry cant remember name but they are sachets that you put straight in your mouth in a green and red box worked wonders for me. then for night have night nurse sleep does wonders for a cold.
obviously what you eat will help or hinder - lots of fruit and veg especially anything with vit c like oranges and try to avoid dairy.
hope you feel better soon!

SLEEP SLEEP.......
I am afraid if it is really flu and not just a bad cold that is the only true cure.....staying in bed keeping warm and keeping your body hydrated with plenty of fluids.
Over the counter medicine can mask a few annoying symptoms ie the stuffed up nose and headaches, but you really need to rest.
If you can eat ....chicken broth has been proven to help.
So rest up take it easy at least till after the weekend

The only thing that works for me is Chicken soup. Either Cream of Chicken by Heinz or the best is home-made soup. Just boil a chicken carcass slowly for an hour, strip any leftover meat, add some stock and loads of veg, boil again for 20 mins then eat! The next day you'll feel loads better. It really works.
