What has worked best for me is nasal cleansing. I have post nasal drip that irritates my throat, so I take a handful of water, GENTLY suck it up through my nose, then blow it out. Repeat until the water is clean.

Zinc lozenges do a great job, if it's a sore throat at the start of a cold.

Gargles with salt water can work. Hot tea is good -- any warm liquid is great, because it relaxes the throat, and gives you more liquids.

If you don't have any throat lozenges, try just plain hard candy -- don't bite it, suck it until it's gone.

I haven't had much luck with slippery elm.

If it continues more than a few days, see the doctor to rule out certain conditions that can be treated easily with allopathic medicine.

Drink warm tea with honey, that's what I have been doing the past few days and it works great for me!

If you are looking for alternative medicines, try slippery elm tea. This herb soothes irritating tissues so it is excellent for a sore throat. As I am sure everyone will recommend, also add some honey. It is effective because it is has a natural antiseptic quality. Drinking Salt water a few times a day, including before bed, should also help sterlize as well as calm your throat. I hope this helps, and I hope you feel better soon! GOOD LUCK!

aloe juice. Look for aloe of 100 to 150%aloe Drink throughout the day. gargle then swallow. This is good for many internal problems. Also flavor is important as the regular has an awful flavor. Check that the bottle says that its without latex.
that type is for constipation.

there's the teas as the other posters said, i personally go for a warm cloth.

Gargle warm salt water.

-Rest your voice.
-Drink at least 8 glasses of fluids a day. Warm drinks with honey and lemon are particularly soothing.
-Gargle with a salt solution. Dissolve 1/2 teaspoon of salt in a glass of water, gargle for 20-30 seconds and spit it out.
