Does vitamin C really make you feel better when sick?!

Question: When ever I have a little, cold, cough, or am just feeling out of it, my mom tells me to eat an orange. "Drink some orange juice", "take 2 vitamins a day", "drink some organic raspberry tea (with vitamin C)"...does this really work? I've been sick now for the past two weeks (longer than I've ever been sick), and I can feel that the sinus infection that was in my nose has moved down to my chest- awakening my asthma. Ironically, I ate an orange the day before I started sneezing and sniffling. Along with these symptoms, I also feel nauseous- usually after eating a certain amount of food, thus making things I used to love eating disgust me (classical conditioning?)...And I've been coughing so much (thanks, asthma) that I swear I have 2 new ab muscles. If anyone has any remedies that actually work, and know if vitamin C really is God in citrus form please feel free to share, and I'll promise not to cough on you...

In my experience, once already sick,it doesn't help much,but......if you have vitamin C everyday when you are ok,it acts as a preventative and you get less sick.
One thing that I find to work for me and I can say that ,although people around me are always sick....I am not and I don't catch their bugs ,is drinking ALKALINE water. It is said that inside the body, our organs are happy in an alkaline based environment and viruses and bugs don't like it. I tried it and I've seen such a difference that I ended up buying a water alkalizer. If I ever get a cold or something....and that is very rare (but I am human after all),it goes away much faster than the other people around me. I used to have asthma too...and sinus problems. Not anymore.....oh! and I used to have really bad psoriasis.....Took one year but during that time it slowly decreased in size.I do drink 2-3 liters a day....and use it for my tea making.....anything that I would use normal water for.Been told that the alkalinity around 9-10 is the best.Something to do with negative ions.....
For a bad cough and irritated throat I had a remedy...unusual but it is used in Africa and it did help.....
Cut the top of a lemon, with a spoon make a whole in it and bring up some juice....put in it sugar and black pepper....and drink it.use up the lemon doing it again.I guess it is vitamin C,but the pepper,as unorthodox as it might sound, helped. An other remedy that is really good and kills bacteria at throat level is use Peroxide 3%,and put in your mouth, swirl it around, and gargle with it.Make sure you don't swallow it.I even use peroxide to disinfect a cutting board or anything like a wound (it stings) or when you have mouth sores.....you get the idea. All these things I am talking about, you can Google them to get even more info.
Hope this helps you.

I heard it actually does very little and drinking extra doesnt help bc it finds ways out of your system

yes Vitamin C is one of the best thiong for you to have when your sick...or even just daily....but to much is not good for you.

i dont know if it necessarily makes you feel better when youre sick but it can help you build up your immune system and help fight against whatever illness you have. just drink a lot of water and/or orange juice, because that helps a lot. my boyfriend got mono and drank orange juice almost everyday and he was healed in no time

yeah it helps don't you learn at school ...
your mom wouldn't give you beer when you sick..

Unless you are like me and get a mild case of heartburn from it, it will do you good. breathe moist air also

It's a myth. Vitamin C does boost your immune system but it takes a while to absorb into your system and most people have enough vitamin C from the previous week that it doesn't help much.

WebMD says that vitamin C does appear to boost the immune system, and that it can help you to fight a cold if taken when symptoms first appear.

However, it sounds like you may have something other than the cold virus (rhinovirus). You self-diagnosed it as a sinus infection, which it might be, but it also might not.

You've been dealing with this infection for 2 weeks, you're an asthmatic, and it has moved to your lungs. I'd say it's time to let a doc check it out.

Hmmmm, according to Linus Pauling it does.MY PHD [chemistry} dad believed in this so much he forced his kids to drink OJ with VIT.C powder in it-Yuck-the thought counted, but to this day I can only drink "not from concentrate" OJ.I believe the fresh enzymes play a big part in the juice. Don't give up on alternative things-they work.[remedies-gargle with warm H2o,don't take vit. c on empty stomach-will cause nausea, flush out nares[nose] with 'sinus flush '[in grocery store]keep body temperature up ,rest, hydrate.Gotta run its course.LOL
