Those of you who don't use fluoride...?!

Question: do you not go to a dentist or do you go to a special dentist that doesn't use fluoride. I'm asking because for the first time in my life I have a true toothache. Its only on the front tooth and I think it might have something to do with my uneven bite.
Regardless of what it is from, do you go to dentistest that use fluroide even with the belief it is bad for you?

Generally they will respect your request to not use fluoride, although I've had experiences where they said they would not, then started using a tooth cleaner which I knew had fluoride on it, and I had to yell at them. In that case I think the dentist just thought I was being foolish and her going against what I asked was permissible since it was for my own good. Hence you need to watch and make sure, even if they say they won't. That's only happened to me twice though, so it isn't super common.

If you want to fix your tooth, your best bet is jsut to gargle some hydrogen peroxide (3.5%) and let it hang around in your mouth by your tooth. That often will do the trick and you won't need to see a dentist.

Hope that helps!

I believe that drinking it is bad for me (in large part because of the medical problems associated in China where flouride is a naturally occuring mineral in the drinking water)....so I avoid drinking tap water.

I dont have a problem with it applied for a few minutes and as long as I can rinse several times before swallowing....

Most dentists will respect requests to not use flouride if you have concerns, and many will be happy to discuss the matter with you....pros and cons....

For example, many dentists are now not using mercury amalgams because of very realistic concerns....(one of my favorite quotes before the united states congress - why is this stuff considerer perfectly safe to put in a patients mouth when I have to treat is as biohazardous waste when I take it out of a patients mouth?)

Sorry, got off on a tangent

We don't do regular dental visits. Have gone for cleanings. When we do go, our dentist - who is the regular dentist we use, don't jump around - knows we don't use fluoride and has it written on the charts. Just tell the dentist you don't want fluoride. They should be okay with it, though they might try to extol its virtues. If they aren't okay with it, find a new dentist.
