If you begin a total body healthy eating and exercise program, then it is much easier to quit! Begin a jogging program, even if on a treadmill....you will lose the desire to smoke. Whenever you take away a bad habit, you must replace it with a positive habit...studies have shown this to be true! Best of luck..you can do it!

You can buy patches or the pills to stop smoking at the pharmacy right off the shelf without a prescription.

I quit due to a illness - so just tell yourself I donot want to get sick or if already sick I donot want to get sick again like I am now. It isn`t as hard as people say.

A relatively new prescription drug called Chantix.
When you smoke normally, the nictotine floods receptors which releases a chemical called Dopamine- this is what makes you feel so relaxed and rewarded when you smoke. Chantix adheres to these receptors, blocking the nicotine from reaching them, and therefore stopping the flow of Dopamine when you light up a ciggarette. Instead, you may even feel somewhat sick what you take a hit. Within a few months, you will not even WANT a ciggarette, it just won't make you feel good.

No matter if you use a patches or pills, the best chance of success is some kind of support - be it a circle of friends or a literal support group. Having to "answer to" someone else can be a great motivator, plus it is good to have someone who can distract you when a craving hits.

Also, just as some additional information for you, my sister started Chantix yesterday. Most insurance plans (including hers) do not cover it and the cost was $260 for the first month. Still cheaper that the cost of cigarettes (not to mention the cost health-wise), but expensve, nonetheless.

My dad and my Aunt quit cold turkey. It may have helped that they both live with non smokers but other than that...That is all they did. I must worn you , they both put on more than 20lbs. My aunt became obsessed with eating and my dad, well, he just has a bad diet. Just tell yourself you don't want to do it anymore and stick to your guns.
Good Luck!

First you rally have to WANT to quit. I did hypnosis and it worked. I walked out of there and didn't touch a cig for THREE years. Sadly, I got drunk in Prague (where everyone smokes) thought I could smoke just one..and was terribly wrong. Now I am adjusting myself and my schedule. Instead of smoking 1st thing in the morning with my coffee, I have a big glass of water and do half hour with hands weights. Since we do not smoke in the house, I stay out of the attic in the morning. I make myself wait an hour if I want a cigaret, then try to push it further and further. I actually went 6 hours yesterday! Not bad. I am a pack a day smoker..horrible. But in the past week, I have cut it down to 1/2 pack. I stopped smoking in the car, when I take our dog for her afternoon walk in the woods, I leave the cigs in the house. Anything you can do to divert your attention form the cigs works. The longer you can go between smokes, the easier it will be to give them up. It is very hard to do, and I struggle daily. But seeing the progress over the past week gives me hope! Oh, I may turn into a rabbit before I am all done, cause I eat carrot sticks ALOT. I get my "oral fixation".

Good luck....

Many kinds of products available.Know you can't just cut back. As a reminder have actually put a small drop of
super glue between my index finger and the adjoining
finger - hard to ignore and easy to remove with finger nail
polish remover. Good luck.

What worked wonders for me were these toothpicks I got from the health food store!!! They are infused with tea tree oil. It really helps with the oral fixation!! The tea tree oil also freshens your breath wonderfully and has antiseptic properties! They are great, I swear by them!!!!!

I smoked 2 packs a day and quit with Chantix. My husband did also.
