Searching for temporary relief?!

Question: On and off I have suffered short bursts of Vertigo over the last several years, over the last few days though the sensation of dizziness, unwellness and imbalance has been non stop. I am scheduled for some scans and test to diagnose what may be causing the Vertigo, and have been given a prescription of stemzine to help with the nausea for the time being, but it does not seem to be helping at all.

Does anyone know of any natural therapies that may help with temporary relief of my symptoms until proper diagnosis and treatment completed?

The feeling of the vertigo is driving me mad, and I just want a bit of calm in a world that is spinning.

Hi Nattie. I can tell you that those bracelets with the small round plastic nub are sold at most larger drug stores. I've used them for years. The popularity of cruising has greatly increased the demand for these. They are very inexpensive. There is also a watch that produces the same effect through battery powered electrical stimulation of the same area of the wrist. You will not feel the sensations but it worked for me on several cruises. I agree that it is premature to go the acupuncture route until your workup. I was a skeptic but I learned of some pretty miraculous improvements.
The particular medication you are on works on the brain to correct imbalances allowing it to function correctly. These chemicals may also affect the parts of the brain which control nausea (feeling sick) and vomiting. I assume your ears were thoroughly examined but just in case, I thought I'd pass this information along too.

About one third of persons with vertigo have a disorder of the nerve that ends in the part of the inner ear called the labyrinth. There can also be problems with the inner ear and labyrinth such as:

fluid build-up
infection
tumors or
conditions that cause motion sickness

Problems outside the inner ear can also cause vertigo. These include:

medications
injury to the brain and
migraine headache

It is normal for persons with vertigo to feel out of control and frightened. In most cases, the causes of vertigo are not a serious health threat.
Good luck Nattie.

Have you tried sea sickness bracelets? They are bracelets you wear that have a nub that sits over a pressure point that helps control dizziness and nausea.

Try Acupuncture...It's been proven to assist folks with your issue. PEACE!

As I'm sure you are aware, there are a ton of causes for vertigo and the nausea that goes along with it.

My experience has been that if the nausea/dizziness meds don't help, you have one of those unusual causes that the doctor may never find.

I had something similar that affected me at night when I turned over in bed. OTC meclazine did not help at all. It took me a while but I finally decided it was caused by the Gingko extract I was taking. For over a year I had taken another Gingko supplement that was a combo of Gingko, Gotu Kola & Ginseng. The store was out so I bought pure Gingko. It is just too strong for me.

So, one of the unusual causes of vertigo can be TOO MUCH blood circulating to the brain, or thin blood. If you are taking any supplements or meds that you can do without, you might think about going off them for a couple of weeks.

Unfortunately, all the natural treatments for vertigo are according to the cause. BTW, Gingko is one of the treatments.
