Do accupuncturists ever re-use needles?!

Question: The one I am seeing gives each patient his own needles which you keep at your own house, he cleans it every session.

Ever heard of this? So I have my own set of needles at my house.

Any experienced opinions would be appreciated.

Never, theyre required by law to use new needles. Sterilizing the needles is not an option.

Edit: Actually, if the needles are used only on you, then he is indeed allowed to reuse the needles. As long as each set is used only on one person it's fine. It's completely safe, theres a very minute chance of cross contamination even after sterilization with needles, but none if used on the same person.

The acupuncturist I saw used disposable needles. I think that is the safest as far as needles go. Needles are considered a bio-hazard, and I don't think I would want them at my house. She used electro-acutuncture on me, which is non-invasive, does not use any needles, does not hurt, and worked good for my problem of tendonitis.

Your acupuncturist is using a practice that is not very common by letting you take your needles home for reuse. Sterile disposable needles are the best choice for acupuncture and not very expensive. If he does reuse the needles he must autoclave them first. Even though the needles have only been used in your body they can still cause autogenous infection in not sterile. On the other hand if your needles are made of Gold (which has certain energetic properties for acupuncture) then it is common for the patient to own their needles for reuse.
