Is it safe to take St John's Wort & what are its side-effects ?!

my mum used to take it for emotional issues my nana has recently started using it for panic attacks etc
neither of them have expereiced any side effects at all!!
herbal is better than drugs any day
trust me i take lots of prescription drugs every day

Kidney failure...wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

Just because something is "natural" does not mean it doesn't have side effects. It's never a good idea to self-diagnose and self-treat depression. See a doctor.

I take St. Johns wort. I like it. I do not take it in excess and the only symptom that I have received in extra sensitivity to light sometimes.
I read that you can also get liver damage when the product is taken in excess.

Hypercin in SJW will in time cause light sensitivity & make you more susceptible to sunburn - reversible once you stop taking it.

I didn't like St John's Wort, but I get along okay with 5htp (L-5-Hydroxytryptophan). Take 50-100mg last thing at night with a carbo snack or some milk. It'll help you get to sleep as well. I've found that it helps my depression far better than any prescribed med that I've ever taken. I take the Serotone brand. You can get it at health food stores or over the 'net.
