this remedy is very prevalent in the Hispanic community. You can actually take a plain piece of paper form it into a cone and dip the narrow part in warm olive oil and then light the wide part of the cone make sure that you blow out the flames so that it is only smoking and then insert to narrow part that you dipped in olive oil to the ear and just relax for a minute or two. I have never tried this but my aunt has tried it on her daughter and she swears by it so good luck.
are you talking about ear candles? Ear candles are lit and the other end is placed in your ear(you're laying down,head sideways), somehow the heat draws impurities out of your ear canal. This works and you can see the evidence when you're done and pull apart the remains of the candle to find it full of icky stuff that used to be in your ear.
Not again... This ridiculous "treatment" is a hoax.

The best way I have found is to get a paper plate or piece of cardboard. Cover it with cooking foil so it won't burn. Make a hole in it for the candle to go through. Lie on you side with your head on a pillow so it is flat. Place candle though the hole into your ear. Light the candle. Have scissors so you can snip off the burnt part of the candle as it goes down. stop a couple of inches before the end and there it is.
Ear candling works because lighting the candle creates a vacuum at the bottom, which removes wax. The wax also melts in the warmth from the flame.
Have a friend help you. I cut a hole in a pie tin and place the candle through the hole and then in the ear. Lie on your side, and let the candle burn down until it is about three inches long and put it out with water. You'll be able to see the wax in the candle.
Ear candling does not work. The wax you see that was supposedly "vacuumed" out of the EAR is from the EAR CANDLE itself, and is there whether the candle was placed in the ear or in a clean, empty cup for the procedure.
Further than being un-helpful, it is dangerous. Burning your ear drum is not cool.

Should you use something like newspaper? Good g-d no! If the specially designed candles are risky to use, how much more so would a big flaming paper cone in your ear be?
