Did detox pills/programs really benefit you?!

Question: I want to do a safe colon cleanse/full body detox but I'm not sure what to buy for it.
If you can recommend one that works I'd love to try!
Can they help PMS and/or insomnia? I'm confused by all the conflicting info...

Detoxification is hugely important. While there are a few out there who will tell you that you just need to pee and poo, our lives and our environment and food supply and eating habits have created a situation that our basic elimination tools can't handle very well.

On any detox or cleanse, be prepared to feel down, tired, or even ill. Make sure you have a few days without any obligations and plan of drinking lots of water, doing enemas if you aren't doing a fiber program, and sleeping a lot. You may feel great, but enough people feel yukky the first few days of a cleanse, that it is best to be prepared!

Let's say you have PMS and insomnia.
These are two problems that sometimes clear up completely when a raw vegan diet and supportive detox techniques are used (deep breathing, walking, sunshine, stretching, resting, colon hydroptherapy/enemas, meditation, far infrared saunas, detoxifying baths). A raw food diet is a kind of "detox." I have seen "miracles" in people who have made the change to raw foods.

The Master Cleanse Diet has worked really well for some people. In others, it seems to aggravate candida overgrowth and/or releases toxins too quickly. Candida can and will contribute to insomnia.

Pills and programs are another path, and some require very little change in your lifestyle, some make you so ill you need to be close to at toilet at all times.
As with diet programs, they can release toxins very quickly.

Some people are healthy enough that they do a packaged cleanse twice a year or so, and call it good. Lucky them!

People react differently to these interventions, depending on how toxic they are, and whether they have an underlying candida overgrowth, or overloaded kidneys that can't excrete well, or chronic low-grade dehydration that makes it hard to process the extra toxic load. When candida fungus starts to die off from your diet changes or supplements, they create a nasty, uncomfortable reaction in the body.

Sometimes these packaged programs are safest to use along with diet changes. Some are too intense with diet changes.

Greens are the best food for healing almost every system in the body. If your PMS and insomnia problems, for example, are still bothering you after a month into a raw diet, ramp it up with daily green smoothies and see if the problem persists. (Just getting rid of endocrine disrupting foods like soy, MSG and flour - contains bromine that displaces iodine can help a lot). If you just can't get enough raw greens into you, or if you just don't feel like it, going to a doctor who specializes in bioidentical hormones may make all the difference in the world. Just be aware that if you start on a program of hormone replacement, your body may stop making those substances, making you dependent on outside hormones for life. They are life changing, but not without some consequences.

As for packaged programs, the program at www.drnatura.com operates more in tune with your body instead of causing the explosive diarrhea of some laxatives. Plus, the stories and pictures on their website are fascinating. No one who has seen these pictures can ever believe that detoxing isn't important. Once parasites and rubbery strings and slabs of old fecal matter are removed from the body, the body will feel better - normal elimination channels have been cleaned up, enabling them to do their jobs better!

I use the Ultimate Cleanse, it is a slow program, but I liked the feeling when done. It has psyllium, so take it slowly, really. The psyllium can be rather strong and be harsh if you increase too fast. Follow the directions and take it slow, and you should be okay. I went through 2 sets before stopping. I won't say that it was an amazing difference, but I did feel better. I'm generally in good health though. Someone who doesn't start out from healthy will notice a bigger change, and should go even more slowly.

I like to do a weekly water fast too. Just water for a full day from supper the night before until supper of the next day -24 hours. It really does make you feel great.

The Master Cleanse is one I'm going to try next time. It is supposed to be quicker and no psyllium.

I'm not sure about PMS and insomnia, it really depends on your whole body situation - lifestyle, diet, exercise. There really isn't a magic bullet in alternative care, it is more a complete lifestyle and effect.

Detoxification is a myth*.

*unsafe, unhealthy myth.

Aside from peeing and pooping, and sweating, and other natural ways of eliminating toxins, theres really not much you can do.

Any benefits from these sorts of programs/products are purely a placebo effect. Don't waste your money.
